RHD car Import into Dubai
Discussion
Hi guys, about 35 days till the movers get here and start packing up the house. The squeeze is being felt by not being able to sell the family fleet.
One car I am not too happy about giving away (loosing over £10k in 18 months)is my 911. It has had a lot of work done including a new engine, and is very sentimental to me. I would love to take the car with me, but I was wondering if there are any restrictions in importing a RHD car into DXB, does any one know of anyone who has a right hooker?
I know its not the best country to own RHD car, but as I mentioned before its more of a personal thing and I will only be using the car for weekend blasts and some track work.
Many thanks chaps

Hi does anyone have any info or experience on the process for registration of a RHD classic in Sharjah? I am seriously considering buying an old (1972) Lancia but only if I can bring it here - don't fancy sticking it in long term UK storage. I would love to talk to someone who has actually managed to do this!
Here's the car

Should have done a forum search before posting, looks like this has been covered before. Sounds like I need to make a few calls.

So the only question now is whether I have the bottle to buy a forty year old Italian car, unseen....

Could you not store it? I would never take a hit like that, could you get a family friend to look after it, there must be another way? It's probably too late now (September 2013), but you should keep your 911 and store in the UK. The worst thing I ever did was sell my beloved 2004 Targa to the dealer I from whom I bought it ('911 Virgin' in Uxbridge) - lost a packet on it as finance deal was still in negative equity, and colleagues in Dubai told me no RHDs are accepted. I should have garaged it and used it on my infrequent trips to London.
Rules with the RTA here in the UAE are now more relaxed and available in the public domain. Classics are being welcomed - with restrictions, but no modern cars RHD will be accepted. Note also that few folks here want to drive a modern manual gearbox car. The traffic is heavy, there are as many speedbumps in the residential areas as in west London, and many GCC locals only sit an automatic-gearbox driving test.
Finally, you could buy a 911 here. Prices are very similar to those in the UK. Finance deals are easier to come by and interest rates are cheaper. Good luck.
