Lived there for 3 years, but in the Eighties, so not sure if it's moved forward a lot. Booze was not freely available and punishments for having it were metered out. If you have an Embassy contact then that provides access.

Hotels were very good but expensive and eating out was a very good experience, spoiled through having only soft drinks/water available

Shopping again expensive, although as its the middle east the gold souks are worth a punt.

I am bugging out today, got the results I needed so back to Dubai today..
