One of my little brothers mates has been offered a job with Etihad and has approached me for some advice.

He has been out here before (Dubai) and loves it, I fear AD is a very different proposition.

As I understand it he will have to live there with these news rules, he is a mid 20's 'lad' so loves being out and about, chasing tail etc.

Package about 30k a month, my gut feeling is he will be left underwhelmed by the social side of the capital and end up sleeping on my sofa in Dubai most weekends!

Guys I have golfed with up there have all been older, say it is pretty quiet, so lots of house/dinner parties etc, if they want the bight lights they come to Dubai.

Am I right?

Pretty much.

That said - if he gets in with a crowd of dune bashers, and has an appropriate car of course, there is some spectacular offroading to be done further South of Ab Dabs.

I would tell any expat is thinking of leaving a job to move to AD to avoid it. The government funding companies are doing all in thier power to remove expats esp at the AED30k level as they need jobs to give to locals (no matter what the job is). That plus AD is no place to live for a singleton

He's accepted it.

My gut is he'll enjoy the job and that's it, I expect to see a lot of him at the weekends!

If he does a year it's an experience I guess, got 2 months left at PWC and then he is here.

I can mention a few places where a lad in his 20's who likes chasing tail could go in AD!

It is a different pace of life there, but parts of it are stunning.

Yas Marina is only a few minutes away for track fun, water park, big name concerts at Du arena, nice beaches...
