Hi guys,

I've been on the lookout for a decent Pistonheads type car in Dubai for a while now to complement the Touareg family bus I picked up a few months ago. Like all petrolheads, I'm finding myself obsessing over what to get as the Touareg, although a lovely car, is a bit dull.

So far I've been considering an early 996. I know, very brave, as I'm aware of all the engine problems. Went to see a facelift 996 last weekend that outwardly appeared nice but had some issues. A great drive though. I can't help worry about the engine issues, which might spoil the ownership experience. I'd still love a 911 though. Would love one as a 'keeper' and even to take back to the UK eventually.

Also considering an M3 E36 or E46 which I'd add a few parts to for taking it to the Autodrome. Would also consider an S2000, but I've had one before along with two E46 M3's so I feel like a change might be nice. Saw a nice E39 US import at Ras al Khor which was mint but very expensive at 90k AED. I think an E39 may be a bit heavy on track and we already have a practical car.

I'm also tempted by something from AMG but concerned about weight as I'd like to track it from time to time.

Let me know of any other suggestions or anything you hear of on the grapevine.

Thanks

Matt

How about a C6 Corvette? Not sure how good a drive they are, but they look o.k and have plenty of bang for the buck. Don't know how easy it would be to get a manual

Or a Cayman S... quite a few on the classifieds

Depending on the budget fairly easy..... I have a 2005 C6 Manual with the Z51 pack, a GCC car I bought it here 18 months ago after a month long search for one.
If your budget is higher then almost all the Z06 here are manual.

I've only tracked mine once (a little autotest style day organised by a PHer at the Autodrome) but it coped fine.

As also mentioned you get a lot of bang for your buck with the added advantage of running a vehicle that's not really practical to have in the UK.

(as an aside, mine's likely to be up for sale in a couple of months as I'm buying a house but am happy to let you have a look round if you'd like?)

Nice Merc SEC 560. Unusual to see out here and the old man is thinking of selling.
