Guys,

Need some assistance.

Has anybody insured their UAE registered car/classic car using overseas Insurance Companies? Is it possible and if so, who did you use?

Mate wants to insure his E30 M3 on fully comp but he is having no luck here in the UAE (3rd party only), so thought I would ask here. I am sure I have read somewhere on here of people doing it, but no idea where.

I do not think that his car qualifies for the Sharjah Classic Car club due to their year rule.

Any help would be appreciated and links to Companies that will insure cars overseas in the UAE

Chartis do it locally through their Private Client Group, but he'll need to insure a "portfolio" of assets.

Failing that, there's Lockton who'll do a top up of overseas assets already covered locally for third party.

A few years back, I tried Chubb who are supposed to offer it in theory, but in practice I seem to recall there was some issue - can't remember what.

Amazing that UAE insurance companies have still not cottoned on to the potential for this market....

Cheers Harris,

I agree with your last statement, the number of Classics running around on what must be only 3rd party would be staggering.

He has found one Company called Clements (www.clements.com) but he was not 100% sure.

I've heard of them doing the top up as well.

The MGB I keep on 3rd party, she's not worth that much :-(
I get the 3rd party from RSA (after a lot of shouting) so I know they will pay out if I hit somebody and I'll not end up in gaol. I don't trust some of the cheap insurance companies to pay.

I looked at the asset portfolio route but they just laughed at my "portfolio". . . . . . . . . . . . perhaps I should have included the value of my tools !

Clements have acquired Lockton. I use them to top up local third party cover to fully comp.
