Buying car in Dubai and bringing to UK
Discussion
Hi guys
I'm looking to buy another G Class, but this time from the UAE as some of them have better specs at not such a high price and then bring it back to the UK.
I've read up about places like Al Aweer and getting the car checked out by AAA etc. Question is do you still need to have a residence visa to be able to buy a car and bring it back to the UK? Does this apply to Dubai only or is it across the board for Abu Dhabi, Sharjah etc.
Are there any reliable agents to be able to deal as an intermediary for automotive transactions?
Thanks
Mani

Don't know how much you know, but that type of car will generally have had an Emirati owner - and without meaning to generalise, it won't have necessarily have been well cared for.
The Dubai climate is not kind to cars either, so make sure you get it well checked by someone who knows what they are doing.

Hi Mattt, sorry for delay. Just saw this now. I have restored my 1990 one, so I wouldn't think there would be many problems the UAE ones regarding body work. Mechanically I can sort any issues out. I just wanted to know if its possible to buy without having a resident visa, but I guess if the cars not being registered to be used on the road and is just taken via truck to a container, it should be ok.The Dubai climate is not kind to cars either, so make sure you get it well checked by someone who knows what they are doing.
Its easy.
Find a car that you like and then get it tested by the dealer. There prices vary from £250 to over £500 depending on the year and model.
You need to let the owner/trader know you are exporting it and they will prepare the clearance papers and invoice. You will then need to get an agent to collect it and ship it to you. They will need you to sign a couple of documents one of which will be to declare the car is safe and has a minimum amount of fuel so that it can be moved around the ports on either side.
Shipping rates have changed this month and I dont know what they are right now but last month we sent a Land Cruiser to the UK and at a cost of £650 including them collecting it from the gargage. Then its down to you to collect at port and pay customs.
