Ok. I need a motor.

Nearly have my shiny new visa for JAFZA and decided against hiring a car, wasted money IMO.

Now I know I ain't gonna get me a TVR out here frown or bring my two over so I need something fun, but and this is a big BUT, I only have budget of upto 20K, so what I want and what I can afford are two completely different things.

Criteria:
Max 20K
Must be easy to sell on
Have some oopmph & handling
Possible track days

Cheers

I don't think all those criteria go well together!

I know Mike, which is why I am struggling.

I saw the Mustang and started laughing at the stickers on the dashboard. Then I saw the VR46 one and thought yea, I like this guy, he has taste tongue out

Wow, my dream car.

God this is hard, and I love car shopping. Just sucks when you have such a low budget.

As the writer of my ad says...'plzzzzzz'

I came to the conclusion long ago that there is nothing worth buying for less than 30k here. At that point you're getting to cars which have spent so much time in this crazy place that they're really on their way out.

I agree but that's all I can afford. Its pointless me spending 2.5K a month on renting when I can put that towards a motor for me.

But I can't keep bumming lifts to JAFZA either, so I have to get a car. Even if its a stbox.

So go the stbox route for a while. You can get a decent boggo focus or something like that for around your budget.

Yep, coming to that, was just hoping someone had an amazing idea or find.

Even the auction sites are useless.

Snotters seem hard to find here. I think people just scrap them. Also, there is limited choice. I've been here around ten years and it's always ste jap whitegoods or bling - nothing in between.

What about looking for something like an E39 5 series? It might not be a bit 'grandad' but the chances are you'll get a nice engine and it will be more interesting than lots of things. Or do what my mate did and buy an old Jeep Grand Cherokee for 10k - needed a bit of tarting up (which with your resources shouldn't be a problem) and he punts around in a capable off-roader with a V8!

That CSI would be great to look at as a rolling resto.

Can't stand the Z3s though - one of BMWs weakest cars of the last 20 years (except the M breadvan).

Simple - Jeep Wrangler.

Always a ready market for these and they're pretty indestructible. Had mine for 11 months now and not washed it once. Never have to worry about it being dinged and can drive/park it anywhere. Yes it's noisy, dusty, slow, cold (at night), hot (during summer), but it's been the perfect snotter for me to tootle around in.

Alternatively, if track days are really a must have, then this would be a good option: http://tnydu.biz/DOlDxS

I think that's the pick, but then I remembered it's been for sale for getting on a year and at least one of the times it was advertised there was reference to serious crash damage.

Might be worth a look though - ticks the boxes.

Hmm Z3. Never considered one as I thought they were too girlie but might be a goer for pootling round to Jebel Ali and occasionally Yas.

How easy would they be to sell on though once I have married Valentino Rossi cloud9

Wranglers are too expensive, or is it just the silly season as prices are quite high.

I did see the Clio, but thought there must be something up with it.

Definitely silly season for Wranglers - I keep looking at mine and the potential 'profit' it holds within, but then I know I'll kick myself afterwards as whatever snotter I get afterwards wouldn't be as good.

Some left-field options:

http://tnydu.biz/DOlArl A low-volume British sportscar built under license by the Koreans... what could possibly be wrong with that

http://tnydu.biz/DOlAEV An old Merc that's riddled with problems, but still cool

http://tnydu.biz/DOlEKT This keeps popping up on Dubizzle, so please buy it before I do something stupid and buy it myself!

4 pot Z's area tad under powered and a tad soft, but there simple machines well put together. The jap imports also tend to be clean

Perhaps a tad boring, but in budget.
