Hi All,

Thought I would ask for help/advice.

I have a 2009 Golf R32, last week the dash board lit up like a Christmas tree with EPC, ABS , traction control, power steering airbag lights all coming on.

I have read up from the UK sites about this and it would seem that it’s a common fault with the ABS control unit. I was confused by this as this wouldn’t set off the airbag light…. I took it to Ali & Sons (AUH) who hooked it up to their computer and charged me AED 600 for 1 mins test. They have told me it’s the A.B.S CONTROL UNIT, and it would need replacing. In total this will cost AED 9,380...!

I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen, and what they did to rectify it, how much and where etc. This price is totally bonkers to me. I know a replacement unit in the UK is 1k fitted.

From further reading, I understand there is a repair kit for it, in the UK this is 400 pounds (Not available in the UAE according to Ali And Sons). There is also a UK company that you send the old unit to and they fix it with a lifetime guarantee. If I were to get this done, I would need a garage to take it off for me, and then re-fit it when the reconditioned part arrives back in the UAE. Has anyone done this?

Appreciate any guidance, as the quoted cost from Ali and Sons nearly knocked me off my stool.

Take the car to Saluki MotorSport behind Times Square and let them have a look.

Thought I ought to reply to this (very late).
The ABS control unit needed to be replaced. Should never have gone on a car of that age. Due to this, WV gave 30% off the part which helped reduce the cost a little bit. The unit cost was still several hundred quid, then labour was on top of that..
German reliability??? I think not.
