I am going to Dubai this week, reading through the Dubai RTA site and i do not know if i need to buy the Salik Card or not. Tempted to buy the Card with 50AED on just in case.
As usual the UAe government websites may aswell not be translated to english as i still can't make any sense of it.
Can anyone give me a quick rundown?
I am only going to Dubai for tourist stuff, mall of emigrates Ski Dubai etc.

AFAIK, everyone who drives through the gates needs a tag - even if you're from KSA etc. Saw a Saudi dude buying one for his S-Class late night the other day.
However, you don't actually need to stick the stupid thing onto your windscreen. So long as your car has a Salik tag associated to it, and credit on the account, then you'll be fine. The Wrongler doesn't have a salik tag stuck on it, yet I've not picked up a fine.

When you come to Dubai just stop at inbatuta gate mall before any salik tolls or most of the petrol station on the dubia side of SZR on the way to dubai. In the mall you can buy Salik at the key cutting kiosk next to gaent. You set it up over the phone and cost 200 AED with 50 AED.
Might be cheaper to drive and stop before MOE (first toll gate) and get a taxi or just avoid the tolls and use the E44

so they Tax you to setup the RFID card.. Just as bad as the Emirates ID that i got Stung for 570AED.
that's more a reflection of who you work for. i have not had to pay for anything required of me by law, driving licence etc,if you tell us where you're going we could help you avoid needing salik. i tend to avoid SZR north of MOE as there are usually much quicker ways to get where i need to be. On the other hand, if you plan of coming to Dubai more than the once it will probably be handy to have.

Mine only cost 370 AED, are you including the medical at 250AED? Must have missed the thread where you told us what car you had bought?
There are approx 4 petrol stations once you cross the AUH/DXB border where you can easily pull in and buy a Salik Tag before actually passing under the first Salik gate at MOE. It will cost you AED100 which gives you AED50 worth of credit.
Make sure you have copies of your Passport/Visa/Registration card/Drivers License with you when you go to purchase one.
