Just arrived in Abu Dhabi but will be moving to Dubai once my residents visa comes through, no ability to hire a car until I get said visa and I have until next Tuesday off. So my question is what should I do whilst here.

I'm off to Ferrari world at the weekend and I need to see a bank about getting an account but apart from that I'm doing diddly squat.

Any ideas people?

Go and drive an f3000 round yas island.
Hire a speedboat and go for a ride
Lay in the sun and wonder just how little you will miss the winter in the UK

Trip to 49ers before the Mrs arrives. Drink the Belgian Beer Cafe dry whilst hoovering their flemish stew. Wander around Emirates Palace. Visit the Grand Mosque - not on Friday mind. Go to the new waterpark at Yas and tell me if its any good.

Some good ideas thanks fellas I shall try some of them out.

I'm here on a working visa hence no ability to hire a car. Is there many PH meets were in AD where I can meet like minded folk.

Just take a photocopy of your passport and your UK license to the rental office - shouldn't be a problem.

The whole hire car on a UK / UAE license/passport/visa thing is such a grey area. When I first got here I hired a car using my UK license/Tourist visa, then proceeded to drive to the police station once my visa came through to get my UAE license. Hire car company weren't interested in knowing I'd changed license - so long as the credit card cleared each month, that's all they cared about.

Oh and don't head to Yas Waterworld - it's not open yet...

As thb said you can hire one on the UK license until your residence comes through.

I arrived in AD a 8 weeks ago, and now in an apartment at Etihad Towers and finally sorting things out. But i still do not have any wheels yet.

Is your employer sorting all the paper work out for you?

Also if you want a cheap local drinking establishment, PJs Bar so Happy Hour and Super Happy hour up until 9pm

The hire car situation is odd, I went to the airport and tried and was refused by all six companies there because of the work visa entry stamp on my passport but a colleague in the same situation has been accepted by another company. I'll be trying them out on Sunday. Company is sorting out all the residence visa paperwork, EID has been applied for and I saw the bank the other day.

I'm not really drinking as its so expensive and I'm on a tightish budget until I get paid.

Ferrari world was a bit underwhelming especially as Formula Rosso was broken.

I think I'll be going to the Grand Mosque next.
