New job... New life...

Soon to be moving to Dubai and just trying to get things sorted whilst still at home in the UK.

I will be bringing electronics etc out. But a few questions.

I might leave - or sell - my old PS3 in the UK, and buy one of the new slim ones when I get out there. Are they the same region coding on games/DVDs as the UK? Ie. will my UK bought games and DVDs play on it ok?

I need to sort out a VPN I suppose before I leave. Now I know very little about VPNs, but I will be looking to get something that covers multiple devices. MacBook/iPad/phone/apple TV. Can anyone recommend something reliable and simple to set up?

I think that's about it for now, but I'm sure I will have plenty more questions to come!

Cheers

VPN- I use VPN express through the apple store for the mac and the ipad and pod and every other bloody thing that we 'need to get to stay in touch' (then never use)

Playstation- no idea, i was bought one here, but will have a look tonight for you.

Oh, and welcome aboard, there is a delicious cold pint awating you the moment you arrive, its really rather nice at this time of year, and the middle east secion of this fine site are a friendly bunch, although one in particular is something of a liability, eh Phil.

welcome, you will love the place.

Welcome.

Moving out here alone or with family?

What you do for a living?

I use overplay for a vpn but not sure it works across multiple iDevices

Yes welcome to the sandpit that is Dubai. A few quick pointers:

1) if you want to buy a car don't ask Phil "the dither king" Craven aka shirt
2) if you want advice on tools talk to Richard Bailey
3) all things liquid refreshment talk to shirt or dusty
4) vehicle repair / servicing talk to Claire aka gaffer
5) most things to do with racing at the Autodrome of has, that would be me.

Cheers all.

Work within the airlines - probably be able to take a safe guess as to which long haul airline I will be working for if based in Dubai!

Car - already searching Dubizzle, thinking big engine.... I have been told a handful of the european cars are a nightmare on servicing costs? Thinking American, Challangers are winning so far - despite rather cheap looking interior...
I will prob take a few months of settling in before I get a car though.

Motocross is a hobby of mine, so the KTM dealership will be getting a visit early on! - got to find a way to get my kit out there safely. - this would also require tools..... I don't think I will bring my tool set out, will need to get a mobile tool chest stocked up when I get there.

Very keen on getting involved in track days at a later stage, probably with some sort of caterham - again that will be something that will come later. Also well up for any sort of karting that would be taking place, used to compete in Club 100 in the UK.

As for Dubai and the Middle East, have spent plenty of time there over the last few years. Few weeks in Dubai, couple months in Abu Dhabi (staying at yas marina) and far too many months based in Jeddah, so am fairly used to rules and lifestyle, along with the dust and heat!

Really looking forward to getting out there now.

I bought a new xbox out here and had no problem with games

as for VPN i did use watchuktv but now use ubblockus as I run it on my hub so my xbox/pc think they are in the uk so I can get lovefilm/netflix(uk & Us) plus iplayer on all my kit.

www.watch-series.com doesn't need a vpn, and has the majority of rubbish on it.

I took my UK bought PS3 out here and have had no issues, although don't use it that much. Bought a couple of games here and they have worked fine.
