Currently in the look out for new cars now that we've sorted visas etc. Was originally going to get a CR8 as it's a big family car and can go on track. Now thinking of spending 60k or so on a family 4x4 (may occaisionally go off road) and then getting something for 30-50k for myself as a hobby/track car.

Focusing on the family 4x4 first.

Have considered an older LR3 v8 for the family, which seemed very nice but I worry it could be ruinous if it goes wrong. Also considering a Hemi Grand Cherokee but none for sale at sensible KM's. I could be really sensible and go for a top spec Pajero 3.8.

I tested an SRT8 Grand Cherokee which has completely confused me. The noise! Could just get one and get a cheapo Clio 182 for the track.

What an awful dilemma! Any advice guys?

Dull as scensoredt but the Pajero is a safe, reliable, cheap'ish option.
I've got three ! but I have the MGB as a toy.

The Pajero's are quite nice. They seem to hold their value and are very reliable. In top trim spec they have all the gizmo's we'd ever need. The 3.8 is something like 270bhp so should be quick enough. As you say though, a bit dull. If I got one it would mean it would free up maintenance funds to get myself something a bit more interesting. I'm thinking E46 M3 or E39 M5.

I LOVE the SRT Cherokees, as you say the noise is amazing, even with the OEM exhaust.

Trying to find a good example of either of your BMW's will be hard, but they can be found.

I understand the Pajero, I do, but if it was up to me, I would "flat-pack" the bloody lot of them hahahahaha

Think I may knock the LR3 idea on the head. They are lovely cars mind. I just think I'd rather our less reliable car was a bit more performance focussed.

I've got the 4.7 Grand Cherokee, whilst nowhere near the big hemi, it's still good fun and makes a nice sound!

Older LR3's are prone to gearbox issues - we have one at the moment with a repair estimate of 10 to 15,000 Dirhams!
