Evening all,

Hope everyone's well smile

I'm just on the brink of selling my Camaro. I posted something a while back about selling it, got distracted by other things etc and have only just got around to putting some proper effort in to sell it, and it looks like I have a buyer.

So I really fancy scratching my 911 itch, which I've had for a while now. And as it happens, there's a nice looking 997.2 for sale here in Ab Dabs at Ali & Son. On the face of it, it seems like a nice car for a fair deal (AED229k). Low mileage, PDK, White Paint, Sunroof, Red Natural Leather, Carrera S wheels. No frills really...not even Bose or Nav...according to the Used Car Finder thingy at any rate. Seems to be quite a saving over an equivalent Carrera S of the same vintage. And with all the official used car warranty etc.

However, something is worrying me...it's a base Carrera 3.6. Is this a problem for re-sale in this region? It doesn't bother me one bit from an ownership point of view as I think it'll be fast enough, and all the handling traits and 911-ness etc will all be there. But I'm not too confident about my job etc and need to know that it'll sell, for a reasonable price, when the time comes. Will the locals not buy it if it isn't a Carrera S?

Any opinions would be much appreciated.

i have no idea on modern pork, other than to say that the non-s trim won't be an issue but the lack of kit will be come resale.

there are a few people on here with 997's, one was selling/has sold his 997.1 gt3 for around that price. best wait til one pops in for a more considered answer.

Cheers Dude.

It does worry me that it has no NAV...find it strange that anyone would spec a new 911 without it! You can retrofit the Navigation module apparently, although it's not a very cheap option...I suppose it might be worth it as I guess it's the main thing that's missing.

Always buy top of the line...ie S. Buyers here are thin on the ground and want the best model within the range (turbo excl as this is a different price point). I sold a 2007 997S in 2011 and really struggled even as an S, amazing spec and condition and 45k kms and warranty. Eventually sold for 183k aed after alot of timewasters..best trade offer was 150k!

Now ya see that is scary frown Good advice though...thanks. I have heard that the Porsche dealers take the piss on re-sale. Maybe I'd be better off with the 2012 fully loaded Cayman S that they've also got!! Different, much lower price point again...

I would suggest driving both cars back to back if you haven't already done so. You may prefer the Cayman over the 911, like many others out there.

Buyer is unlikely to be local - fewer of them than expats with similar money to spend.

Stating the obvious; your ability to sell will depend on what is on the market at the time you come to part company...and the price - if it's awash with S models packed to the gills with Bose, Chrono, Nav and carbon console trimings you'll be stuffed but if you buy at the right price you can pass on the saving and get out quick.

Personally I don't care for nav and the like but I think we're at a point where so many people just expect it they'll be put off.

Plenty around for a snifter more...

Cheers Chaps. Decision has been made for me...rang Ali & Sons this morning and the C2 they had was sold!

So I'm going to wait until a nice one comes up. That white one Hitch suggested above looks lovely. In the mean time, I think it's hire car heaven for me smile

Cheers all.

Personally, I wouldn't be looking at spending that much, as I'm sure the prices will be falling soon enough now the the 991 is in full swing.
That said, I wouldn't want a newer model anyway, but can fully appreciate why people do.

I would stick my cash into something like this-

Or indeed, a 996turbo for even less money.

How...that seems too good to be true, doesn't it?? Only 190,000?

Edited to say advert posted in August! ;-)
