Cant find much listed on the net for ideas for new year, I know its a fair way off but have people coming across to stay so thought best start looking at some possible plans!

Some people have said taxi's are an utter nightmare on the night and into the early hours.

Any suggestions or ideas be good?

I think we'll have a party at our place this year - we're right next to the Burj Khalifa so it will be cool to watch the fireworks at midnight.

Doesn't really help you - sorry about that.

Yeah - taxis are an absolute nightmare and I'd suggest doing something very close to home or even go and spend the night at a hotel that has something on.

As an aside - we were watching the fireworks from the balcony of a mate's place in JLT last year and some silly/poor idiot stacked his 911 on the Springs/Emirates Hills interchange right in front of us at 5 minutes to midnight - obviously in a hurry to get to a party. Hopefully he hadn't had a drink as that would have really ruined his New Year!

Fireworks aside i found NYE to be very disappointing (i went to the westin). It's my birthday and won't be having it here this year.

If i were you i'd get a group together and go bar hopping around karama. I did this with some indian/filipinoson xmas eve and it was a brilliant night out.

Downside being I may be in work on new years day or xmas day not sure which one yet so the desert and staying out in that might be out of the question, plus I dont think the corolla hire car will be too good and dune bashing lol

Cheers for the suggestions though. Hotel might be the better bet or somewhere close (JVC doubt be much on haha).

Are the main fireworks the burj kahlifa, any other noteworthy displays on?

Started thinking about the very same thing as we have visitors over too and they will want to go out and have a big night out. However we've been disappointed the last couple of new years with brunch type set-ups.

There just isn't the same visibility of new year events that you get back in the UK.

A couple of good suggestions above though.

Oh and yeah taxis and general ability to get anywhere is hampered unless you head out early doors and head back right at the end of the night i.e. 3am.

I'm usually in bed before 10pm on NYE. Prefer not to wake up NYD with minging hangover.

I like to start the NY fresh and then do the NYD brunch...

Jan 1st is a public holiday.

I have done a couple of brunch type affairs, generally disappointing, if here I prefer the desert trip/house part option tbh.

Getting away is my preferred option, last 2 have been spent in Roma and Goa.

Think Atlantis and/or Burj al Arab do fireworks as well

Don't get me wrong, I prefer not to, but some things are sadly inevitable.

I spent my first new years (about 13 days after arriving) on my balcony with a pizza, and a bottle of Bombay Sapphire.

It redefined the term hangover.

I have had some very good NYE parties at the Dubai Creek Golf Club (forget name but outside venue) in the past.

But these days, I am with Oily below.
