Barcelona 24hr
Discussion
As some of you know SVDP Racing and it band of merry men (Richard, Sam, Phil & myself) are all heading to Barcelona to run SVDP Racings BMW 120d in this weekends Barcelona 24hr race. We are being ably assisted by a few friends.
We all arrive on Wednesday where will set the garage up and finishing the vehicle preparation. Thursday will getting the paperwork submitted, car technically inspected and hopefully take the car out on the track for shake down and to let the drivers learn the circuit. Friday is practise and qualifying with the race starting at mid-day on Saturday.
Right, one more day at work to go......

Harris,
Have a look at the teams web site www.svdp-racing.co.uk as the looks a little different to when you drove it.

Can't see it from work as it's classified as a "Games" website. Daft IT system.Have a look at the teams web site www.svdp-racing.co.uk as the looks a little different to when you drove it.
I'm assuming based on recent pics that it now looks like that monster 135d that was in our pit garage last year.
What amazed me about this little car was even when it was in its original state of tune, there was not much difference in corner entry and exit speeds between it and the pro-driven Porsche Cup cars. The bowl before the Club Link was a good case in point - you had plenty of space to make room for quicker cars to blast through on the racing line but there was no need. Must be amazing now with a bit of poke, lighter panels and some aero. Must persuade Spencer to give me a go one of these days...
Well it has been a stressful 3 days. We rebuilt the fuel cell yesterday and due to RACC being retentive in the solid waste exit location of the body they only accepted our roll cage 30 minutes before practise started today. Well the good news is that we have qualified on class pole.
It looks like it is going to be a close race.

Quali was a good feeling, pole by 2.5 sec and a laptime in the 2:12's
Chris stated he would start gently and was true to his word, planting steady 2:18s. Then wubbe took over and settled into 2:16s before he came in having lost power steering.
Nearly 2hrs in the pits for that unfortunately, a hairline crack in the hard piping meant fluid didnt stay in long. Solution was to ditch the PAS
Until stefan came in before his stint was up, fatigued from the exertion. However being something of an artist with a welding gun he fabbed a replacement pipe and the car was back out with PAS in just over an hour.
So, 16hrs to go and a 55lap deficit to a podium position. Drivers and mechanics in high spirits, we'll see how that changes come morning...
