What is going on there?

It's all completely cordoned off around the huge car park between the Sheraton and the Hilton. In fact, there's absolutely no public beach access along the whole stretch, apart from a little track between the Meydan and the Ritz-Carlton and at the bottom end by Le Royal Meridien.

I know it's not exactly beach weather at the moment, but this looks distinctly long-term.

That new Meydan hotel looks very smart, though.

I rarely venture down there - the whole beach-side strip is destined to be hotels so it wouldn't surprise me to see it gone.

even living in the marina i very rarely go down the walk, far too annoying and this will make it even worse. traffic is also going to be horrific.

interesting the article says dragon mart will double in size, yet more tat shops to visit for those all important spongebob phone covers!

As far as free beaches go, much prefer Jumeirah Beach Park. Seems cleaner than JBR with a fair bit of greenery too.

Thanks Claire, that explains it then. smile

I agree with the others; JBR is far from the best beach in Dubai but it's free and practically on my doorstep. Without easy beach access, the marina starts to look like just another bunch of residential towers at the far end of town.

Does that mean the beach will still exist behind this place?

Also - 'lol' at 18 months to completion and the idea that the tram will have any impact.
