Dubai & Jebel Ali
Discussion
Next week I'll be working in the port of Jebel Ali although I will have a few days to myself. It's my first trip so any recommendations on where to visit would be welcome. Although I quite like the idea of renting something quick and looking for twisty roads in the desert (if they exist!).

decent driving roads are a couple of hrs drive from the south of the city. however look at what days dubai autodrome and yas island are running experiences. the single seaters and radicals are much cheaper than what you'd pay in the uk.
as a newbie wanting a quick car, this is what a speed camera looks like:
on sheikh zayed road they are every couple of km. £100 a go for an infringement, so go easy.
jafza is a bit of a maze so make sure you know where you're going. otherwise the hotel should have a free shuttle service to the port.
also, radha o radhe in jafza food court 2 - nomnomnom

Thanks for the info.
My trip is very last minute and my schedule isn’t set so anything I do will have to be spontaneous, hence I think renting a quick car would be a good idea. Speaking of which, is there anywhere I can rent a Chevrolet Lumina CSV CR8?
I’m aware its Ramadan at the moment – will I struggle to find places to eat during the day?

Fuel prices and roads will suit it. Do see a fair few of them about but not sure who could rent them companies wise im afraid.
Yep my thoughts exactly, not to mention the lack of cold weather to interfere with the electrics.Should you find somewhere that rents them, please let me know

They stopped bringing them in in 2009, so few and far between on the roads I am afraid.

Looks like a CSV will be out of the question then.
It also looks like I'll be working backwards and forwards from Jebel Ali to Khor Fakkan. Pardon my naivety, but is there any public transport between the two? It would appear not, according to Google.
There might be a bus of some kind but you really don't want to be on it.It also looks like I'll be working backwards and forwards from Jebel Ali to Khor Fakkan. Pardon my naivety, but is there any public transport between the two? It would appear not, according to Google.

There is, but it looks like you'll have to go Dubai - Sharjah then Sharjah to Khor Fakkan..... it's a long old trip in a bus and actually not a bad drive if you can do it yourself. It also looks like I'll be working backwards and forwards from Jebel Ali to Khor Fakkan. A good drive through the mountains, take the new Kalba road which has some nice twisties and tunnels across to the indian ocean then up to Khor Fakhan, takes about an hour and half from Dubai and as there are no camera's on that road to Kalba....well you get my drift...
I use various areas off that route to do my tuning of my fuel maps, where the engine needs to go through all sorts of loads and rpm.

It's great that new road isn't it.... watch out though, I drove it last week and they were starting to put cameras in at the Fujeirah end so I suspect the long flat out blasts are not long for this world!I use various areas off that route to do my tuning of my fuel maps, where the engine needs to go through all sorts of loads and rpm.
Shame though, it's so lightly travelled that any camera placed there is simply a mototist tax.
