Depends how quickly you need it. I've got one at home (back in the UK) already attached to a 77mm filter thread that I could bring back, but won't be until end of August.

Cheers but I am far too impatient for that!

Was hoping to take it with me to Japan on the 4th of July and try it here before that.

If Shirt can't help then there must be a place that can sell me some, probably in Al Quoz somewhere

And it's too fecking narrow for anything except my 50mm, Shirt if you could 'do the needful' please?

4x3 inch seems to be the norm in the civilised world, not here!

I've got some spares at home, but not sure they are any bigger.

Also Miller have a dealer down by the airport and they may be able to help.

However, what are you trying to shoot. "IMHO" welding glass is so dark the only thing you will see is the arc, weld pool and a very small amoung of surroud so I would have thought you'd be shooting a 100m macro (or similar) and the shade glass would be big enough to cover the image area on that. (Same priciple if you are trying to shoot the sun.) Plain glass will be enough to protect from spatter etc.)

Cheers,
Richard B.

The use of welding glass in photography isn't generally to shoot welding. It stops down the light by about 10 stops meaning you get use show shutter speeds to get longer light trails, smoother water, longer cloud trails (what clouds?) etc etc.

I used one back in the UK a few times before moving over to a proper 10-stopper. The welding glass produces a very strong green tint which (if shooting in raw) can be dealt with in Lightroom, however it's not perfect. I always preferred to use them on scenes that would suit B&W as this conversion is better.

I'll see if I can dig out some samples of what I've done in the past.

If you want to drag the shutter welding glass is not the way to go, it is to dark and to much of a tint.
You are much much better off with a decent ND filter.

I used a ND and a graduated ND on this one to allow me to slow the shutter for long enough (13 sec) to get the lenght light trails I wanted but still have the correct lighting on the buildings and sky.

I know the limitations of using welding glass, however for something that will get very little use I would much rather shell out the 3 dirhams I spent yesterday than on a proper big stopper.

Even the Lee filters ones get slated, so then that means getting a Hitech which is more than I am prepared to spend at this point

Yes I shoot in RAW so WB correction can be factored in, and as above I would imagine most of the shots I would use it for would black and white anyway.

Some examples here - http://pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f...

Richard, Shirt if you have one that is the standard 4x3 or even one that will fit on a 67 mm wide lens then there is a beer or 2 in it for you!

Will try get hold of the guys you mention by the airport, I finish work on Thursday and not off away until next weds so got some time.

Edit is it these guys? http://www.monatrading.ae/contact.html

Your welcome to borrow some of my proper ND's if you want ?

I think I have +2, +4, +8 and +4 graduated, they are square so you can stack them in the filter holder.
Can also combine with a poliriser to add another stop or two.

email me at richard (at) images-underwater.net if your interested.
