Sat nav - specifically iPhone/tomtom
Discussion
Anyone here use the tomtom iPhone software? Seems that it works ok without data which was my main concern as the costs are silly. I'm used to tomtom hardware/software but if I can do what I need on my phone it saves me having to lug another bit of kit around.. I realise at best it will be vague, but it's a start..

I have a sat nav in the boot of my car if you need one.
Other than that, i cant help with the phone question.
Cheers  Might take you up on that. Need to do a bit of digginf around to see what works. Reluctant to buy another bit of kit that I simply loose the charger for or leave in a hire car or whatever..Other than that, i cant help with the phone question.
What I really need is one with enough memory for maps so I can swap between UAE, Qatar, and KSA - it is starting to be silly the number of times that taxi drivers/company drivers end up heading off in some random direction and then ask me for directions. Very nearly missed a plane back from Doha last month as the guy simply didn't know where he was going. Most of the places I need to get to in Dubai aren't a problem, but I really won't be impressed if I end up missing a flight becuase some numptie hasn't a clue where he is going..
I have a US purchased Garmin here, with US maps inbuilt and then all of the Middle East and North Africa on one SD card with all of Europe on another.
I use it extensively here in Dubai, it's not perfect but it's very very handy at teaching you the fastest routes from one place to another and it's equally good at helping you get home if you do get lost when out exploring.
Over the year that I've been here, I've stored dozens of locations in its memory and now, although I mostly know where I'm going, I still rely on it from time to time.
I'm running 2010 maps, 2012 maps have just been released and should be fairly up to date I would guess.

If anybody manages to update their maps, please let me know how you did it because I haven't worked out how to!
