As per the title really, my external drive is buggered (clicking away to itself and won't register on any computer) any idea where I can go to get this info recovered to a new drive? It has all my iTunes, films and photos on it.

Hmmm, no help really, but just be mindful if you have any "personal" photo's/movies on there!

Various free disk repair/utilities available on the web. Can't remember the one I used when I had a similar problem before I swapped to apple. Did manage to get the data back though..

I've given up trying to find a company to do this here, the last couple of times I've used Fields Data Recovery in the UK, they've been excellent. Approx $400 for a 1Tb external drive.

Let me know if you find anyone locally, SWMBO has the same issue after one of our dogs pulled a 1tb hard drive of the coffee table.

Al Ain Centre, otherwise known as 'Computer Plaza' on Mankhool Rd at the Bank Street end has compaies that will do data recovery for you. You need to go there and have a wander around. They might appear a bit pie-key but they're usually pretty good.

buy a new housing/USB interface first and swap the drive onto it. They're usually the source of the problem.

Cheers for the advice guys, the feckin cat pulled it off the table in my case and I think the issue is something mechanical in the drive that's buggered.

Will have a trawl around this week and if I get success will let you know.
