Okay, finally picked up the new car (boring Pajero) and the Mrs wants it to be valetted.

Does anyone have any recommendations for somewhere to get a proper job done - inside, outside etc - not a shopping centre car park job.

I'd definitely recommend the Wheel To Wheel Auto Service Centre (or whatever it's called) on Umm Suqeim street behind Mall of the Emirates.

You can't miss it. Details somewhere in this thread:

I would personally only ever get a car painted or valeted (If you want it doen properly) at Polimar. They are in Al Quoz and have been here for something like 30 years. My mate just took his Rangey there last week and he had some small paint chips done and valeted and he said his car is like new. Yes, you do pay a little more, but the job will be A1. Most other places just wash it, give it a quick t cut and then cover the car with that "Back to Black" platic spray....which is a nightmare here as all the dust sticks to it 5 seconds after you apply it. http://www.facebook.com/#!/polimarmotors

The main target of the valet is the interior - the last owner was a smoker and whilst it's not horrific, a good clean of the carpets and seats will help with the smell no end - we can then use light air fresheners to top up.

Haven't been down to Wheel to Wheel yet and thanks to Vanquish for the other recommendation.

Aye, am pretty sure they can just do the interior for you. There are a number of places in Al Quoz which will give it a deep clean for you. If it aint good enough then don't pay, thats the rule of thumb I tend to go by. I had the same with my old car, chap was a smoker but went straight off when I had it steam cleaned and an air freshner in there.

Isn't there a trick of putting something like an orange/some charcoal/a box of frogs in the interior for a couple of days to remove the last odour once it's cleaned? I'm sure I've seen something like that on here before.

Its not an orange that you use.

You simply install me in the back seat with a pack of Marlborough lights, give me an hour and all traces of other smells will have vanished.

If you don't need the car for a few days at a time, simple trick:-

Cat litter tray

Non-scented cat litter.

Place in boot (if hatch or estate) or behind front seats, it will slowly remove the odours.

Smoke bombs (as in the smelly one's valeters use) etc will just mask the smell.

Hope it helps.

IIRC the following remove odours:

Baking soda sprinkled onto carpets and upholstery. Leave overnight is best then hoover up
Half a lemon
Bowl of vinegar

Wheel 2 Wheel will give the interior a really thorough wash, removing the interior and washing everything individually. I've not tried it, but it sounded pretty comprehensive. They wanted to keep the car overnight though, so I declined.

The reason that valet companies keep the car overnight is to let the upholstery dry, otherwise it stinks and can takes weeks to get rid of it.

I was just at Wheel to Wheel tonight giving the 'hoe a good going over.

Anyways, there I was sitting quietly on my own in the waiting room drinking tea. The supervisor just walked in, looked straight at me and said . . . "Sir, your Ferrari is ready now."

Still wondering how far I'd have made it in a black 599 before I got rumbled!

Without wishing to hijack this thread, does anyone know if these valet places do while-you-wait headlight polishing?

I've got someone coming round to look at my Volvo tomorrow and realised (too late probably) the faded headlights really let the car down. Don't have time to book the car in anywhere, so wondered if I can just rock up to one of these places and let them work their magic for an hour while I read the paper.

I'm sure you could Harris - it's not a job that would take too long to do. Fibrafoil used to do it inside their facility in Al Quoz, but I'm not sure if this is something they offer in their new digs.

I saw a flyer the other day from someone advertising their services in Media City as a home/office visit service. Unfortunately I didn't take note of the details, but will let you know if I see the flyer again.

Thanks Tom. Long time no see - hope all is well.

I happened to stop by Wheel 2 Wheel today and they don't do headlight polishing. Didn't realise Fibrafoil next door might do it. However, I checked with Max Garage and they can do it while I wait on Saturday morning (assuming this chap who's coming to see it today is not buying).

Finally found time to get to Wheel 2 Wheel. They wanted the car overnight (not a problem) but they also wanted 635Dhs for the interior only!!!

It's a 3dr Pajero, so not huge, and has leather seats. Was I being unrealistic expecting to pay no more than 400Dhs (Which is still more than I would ever pay in the UK)?

Anyway, tried bartering and they weren't interested.

Will have to your VanquishDXB's place in Al Quoz next.
