I need some inspiration where to go for a week (2nd week of July) or i will just end up going where SWMBO wants to go as usual.

I have first two weeks of July off but she only has the second so somewhere we can do justice to in a week.

I don't particularly like slumming it, I quite fancy Berlin but open to all suggestions.

We have done Singapore, Bali, India and Goa in last 2 years (I am never going back to India again!) so they are off the list.

Somewhere that I can go and get lost with my camera would be nice.

Over to you

Thailand, Japan, South Korea

Italy (Venice/Rome) or former Eastern Bloc Countries.

All the above should be able to offer awesome photo opportunities.

Did Rome for New Years, forgot to add that, amazing place

She has done Thailand, that'll get vetoed I think.

Japan fascinates me, not sure how the missus would feel though, is a week long enough?

We have family and friends in Switzerland and Austria she is leaning towards that at the moment.

I did Japan in 12 days, I was on my own and kept getting lost/distracted by things I saw on the Nozomi & Shinkanzen so would jump off at the next station and wander back.

HK is great for a week.

Always fancied Vietnam and Beruit

South Africa is also on the list seeing as I do have family there.

Vietnam is on our list, but needs 2 weeks to do it properly.

She was in HK last year seeing friends.

She gets about (quiet at the back!) so trying to find somewhere we both haven't been is a nightmare.

Japan has been dismissed as 'too far for a week' frown

We will get to South Africa sooner or later, just not this trip.

No, a week is not long enough, but if you pick your required locations well, you should be OK.

Ibiza. We went last July and stayed in Sant Josep near Es Vedra.

San Antonio is the place to avoid. The rest of the island is absolutely stunning.

I loved Sri Lanka when i went a few years back.

Easy to travel to, cheap enough when you get there, good range of accomodation- I stayed at the Eden resort & spa, which was good enough.

You can hire a car and see Candy- which is a great place with plenty to see and do, and- as every single person that visits does- go and see the elephant sanctuary.

The beaches are superb, good food- just avoid the local stout- Lion, because, quite frankly, Oliver Reed would have struggled with it.

I loved the place, and shall be taking the wife at some stage

Did 9 cities in Germany in 23 days last summer, starting in Berlin for 3 days. Quite a bit to do plus if you add in Stuttgart (Porsche museum is well worth a visit)....

Berlin with an EasyJet jaunt to Amsterdam is looking more and more likely.

Lufthansa to Berlin is pretty reasonable

How about Vienna?

Direct flights on EK, a stunning city that I really liked, compact enough to do justice to in a week yet has plenty worth seeing and doing.

Which one other city apart from Berlin would you recommend if we decided to do 2?

If going to Europe I would be straight to Florence, hire something and then drive to Sermione on lake Garda.

Beautiful place

i was thinking of berlin with a few days hiring a boat. the pickup/dropoff point is near potsdam.

fly into berlin for the weekend, midweek floating about the countryside, back to das kapital for another round of mayhem.

i love berlin, would live there but ich sprache nicht gut deutsch.

in the end, i plumped for a return to heathrow with cheap one way flights so as to spend 3 days in brussels, venice, budapest and krakow. the 5flights to do this were £180 all in.

solvenia is good.

I did a week there and stayed mostly in ljubljana with visits to Lake bled (visiting the castle overlooking it) and Postojna Cave.
