Dogs and Dubai!?
Discussion
So. . .
The better half and I are looking to relocate to Dubai. I'm pretty familiar with the place having been a regular visitor for 12 or so years however. . . living out there is a different ball game to staying with family etc.
If we relocate we'd be taking out two dogs (mini dachshunds) and I'm a little apprehensive about the kind of life they'd live out there. Heat is an issue but I guess here in Scotland it's the same with cold, they hate it!
Anyone here have some experience of having dogs in Dubai, the ups and downs? Would be great to hear about your experiences etc
Cheers!

Hello mate,
We have 2 dogs, a Pug and a Britsh Bulldog... Both rescued from clueless/heartless locals. The Pug was kept outside 24/7 in a cage the same size as him. mrs C took her local boss back with her and they argued in Arabic for half an hour before I paid 500 quid for him. The Bulldog came from a rescue centre.
They both have a life of luxury. Yes the heat means they are house bound for long periods in the summer, but they couldn't be happier. They both get in the pool, and since I've beeout of work, I take them out for drives!
The heat is only too much for them for 3 months a year, most of the year is fine. Walking is done late at night and early morning. We know someone who has a great big Burmese mountain dog thing, and we thought that was just cruel. Apparently he swims most of the day and loves his life.
Do it, they'll be fine.

Yep, we have a shih-tzu and a king charles, no issues.
They get walked at 7.30am, 6pm and 11pm. They are less active outdoors now it is getting warmer but we keep their hair short to help.
Some parts of Dubai are more dog friendly, the Greens where we are is great, Marina less so.
Obviously a villa is fine as well.

Cheers guys, I think where we plan to live is key. My sister lives in Dubai Marina, top floor, tiny balcony . . . so not for us! Greens and Arabian Homes look like they'd fit the bill.
I see dogs are not allowed off their lead in public but I guess a few trips to the desert would be OK at weekends etc.

Ours are let off the lead on the 6pm, there is a group of about 10-15 dogs that meet on some grass at the lake outside my building, they all just mess about together.I see dogs are not allowed off their lead in public but I guess a few trips to the desert would be OK at weekends etc.
I have a Japanese Akita, likes to go out and sunbathe but also likes to sit under the A/C!
Not the kind of dog to let off the lead, and doing so is illegal in the UAE anyway.
You hear lots of stories of irresponsible pet owners letting their dogs off and getting themselves in trouble.
I had a Lab attack my dog in the Arabian Ranches while out for a walk, came over, off the lead, and started to give it all that, I let my lead slack so she could at least defend herself and the owner of the Lab got all arsey when she fought back and kicked the Labs arse. Tried to get me to pay the vets bill!!
