Cars For Sale thread?

Hello all. Following on from the Auto Market thread, I was wondering whether we would be interested in starting a "Cars for Sale" thread. I know that FS ads are positively frowned upon on the main boards but I wanted to gauge the opinions of the readers of the ME forums (admittedly most are based in the UAE).

In the absence of a Classifieds section for the International PHers, I think it would be helpful for a number of reasons and I for one would, all things being equal, prefer to buy a car from a PHer rather than from the Auto Market or Dubizzle. I am happy to put my cards on the table and admit that I will have a car for sale but am happy to go with the flow (or the orders of the Moderator!).

I had in mind a thread which follows the "What car musings" post, i.e. everyone who has a car they own posts details and pics of their car or alternatively a link to the relevant Dubizzle ad.

What do you think?

Good idea. No point putting an ad in the main section. If mods don't mind, we should post them here.

Tis a good idea, but they would be very few, wouldn't they? Of course word of mouth will spread and we'll get a load more expats and their cars on here, which would be a good thing. However, would it not also encourage the "rest" to follow?!

They are making changes to the classifieds at the moment but seeing at the majority of PH is UK based, I don't think they will put in an international section.

The What Car thread seems to have most basis covered as people link to the Dubizzle ads anyway.

An excellent idea. When I was in the UK I used the PH classifieds with more confidence to buy and sell and even though I would not know most of this forum from Adam (or Ahmed) I would still prefer to do business with a fellow PH. The existing PH classified section is focused on the UK with it's postcode search. Until PH enhance that facility I would hope that they may have a relaxed attitude to a simple thread that alerts to an ad in Dubizzle. Probably not but worth asking the question.

Simple solution - post up the ad on Dubizzle and then subtly drop the link into a thread here to tell people it's your ad.

I bought my Wrongler off a fellow PHer which gave me a bit more confidence than a random Dubizzler

Seeing as the topic is up. I have decided to sell my 911 73RS Replica (Photos on the Spotted thread) Anyone interest then just Personal Message me. Shedloads of stuff done to it. In short, nothing needs doing, I spent 14,000USD recently on engine, clutch, new air con unit, new phat exhaust, paitwork etc. Just need room in the garage for the new car.

Not going to help but, I would of had that from you, if I was in Abu dhabi now. Currently on gardening leave in UK but employer stopping me relocating until the end of my notice period.

Well, the Volvo went a couple of weeks ago to a very nice Danish chap. Feeling a bit sad about it, to be honest.

I'm gonna be even sadder about the next one. X5 4.8l 355bhp V8. Awesome car. Going on dubizzle now if anyone's interested (need to do the photos tomorrow):

Sorry guys but this thread is a non starter it isn't going to happen, why? because it contravenes the rule of posting no. 8 that states:-

"Post links to websites or adverts for commercial or personal gain. All advertising on PistonHeads must be through the normal channels."

The rules of posting are implemented site wide consistently, there are no exceptions to rule 8 with the exception of Track cars for sale as they are somewhat specialised.

Sorry but rules is rule, harsh but fair.
