On the daily commute this morning, on a 2 lane road, going past all the schools at the end of the 66. Stuck in traffic. Not moving...both lanes. I hear a "beep", "beep", "beep", "beep" followed by a few flashes. I look in the rear view and there's an old guy (about 70ish) about 10 feet away from my bumper. I ignore him. Then we start rolling , about 10 mph. And there he is again, going beserk with the horn/flashers. This continued, stop/start in traffic for about 10 mins. He then changes into the inside lane and continues with the next car.
Now, he wasn't like the usuals, who are desperately trying to put you into the central reservation, or on their way to save the entire lives of their families ( rolleyes ) but he simply looked...I dunno, confused or if he knows he's doing it, but has no idea why.
I toyed with the idea of getting out and politely asking what the issue was, but a local friend suggested to simply ignore, as he'll probably just have a hearty.

That's it really.

I'm sure getting out and having a word with him would have been fine but there's always a risk. You could find yourself accused of something and end up royally screwed. If it came down to a case of him vs you, he would win.

It's difficult but what I try to tell myself in these situations is that we're not the UK. These guys just drive like that and it doesn't really mean anything to them. Horns, flashing lights, tail-gating: it's all very normal. Whereas in the UK it means the guy in the other car wants to kill you, here it means nothing.

Ignore and move on... until the next time.

Dunno what part of the ME you're in but when I was in Saudi we were told to avoid any dealings with the locals as far as possible, don't even assist in an accident, that was a long time ago mind

stop car, get out, remove kosh from under drivers seat, break window, break face, get back in car, drive off

I would (and do) ignore it, generally move out of their way, the missus is worse for letting them get to her, she'll sit in the outside lane on SZ and refuse to move.

He may have been confused, probably a tad more traffic than their was when he first started driving.

Either that or he was pissed.

Take his number down and report him. There's a traffic hotline to report bad drivers. It actually works. Chap who tried to run me off the road got a police visit. I believe they take action if there are a sufficient number of complaints.
