Be there!

SVDP racing intend to make up for the drama of the 24H Dubai with a good run out in the 1hr event [race 5]. The OEM fuelling system has been junked from the HP pump backwards and a new engine loom and injectors are going in this evening. Hopefully we'll be able to give the Barsha Imam some noise competition later!

Think I will be toddling over the road to come and have a gander

Good luck to SVDP Racing - you guys deserve some track time.

I am going to be a busy little boy. Not only looking after SVDP Racings BMW (with Shirt, Sam & co.) but helping strategy wise with GNSS Racing and helping one of the 2 Vendetta Racing bikes. I am going to be doing my best Mr. Ben (youtube if need be) impression this weekend given the number of team clothing changes I will be performing.

7 cars on the grid for the GT race, 3 of which were Clios and a Honda! What a sad sight that was to see

It's a good year if you want to put "National Champion" on your CV.

Yes the GT grid was small.... but what arace between the Honda and one of the Civics. Less than 5 seconds covered them all race.

I came down and had a mooch around the pits in the morning, yes it did see rather empty.

I didn't say hi to anyone as I have not idea who's who. However, I'll come again as I like the access, also enquired about getting my race license, seems I just have to pass a test in a subaru and tt then take the cert to the authorieties to get a national license, as there seems to be no official training, is this correct?

who won? good to see jonathan beat the gremlins.

have to agree with yorky, the grid was pitiful in relation to those who started the season. what is the reason for so many dropping out?

That's correct. You can get private tuition at the Race School if you want, but it's not necessary to pass as they're looking for safety and being reasonably consistent. I take it you're already doing things like autocross or karting?

Money. Nowadays even being young and Emirati doesn't help get sponsorship.

Jonathan by 5 seconds. He drove really well, his lap times varied by only 1 second over the 1 hour race, he kept looking at his pit board and just kept banging in consistent laps, just the way you are supposed to do in an endurance event.

I wonder if the touring car championship shouldn't be a mix of 12 lap sprint races and 1 hour endurance events. So long as you have a 30l fuel tank you can race for 30 minutes with no problems.

I went armed with the Mrs and the camera expecting a fairly decent grid! After 20mins of the GT race it got massively boring - yes, the racing between the Clio/Honda was good to watch (from the bowl) but that was it. We left.

That 458 sounded the nuts.

Ian, appreciate your comments, but its time that there was a change somewhere, somehow. Track days attract a fair number of people, I think its about time that these are perhaps turned into something a bit more "race like". I have no idea how, but we need more "grass-roots" entry level motor sport.

AutoX/Speed Fun Runs, Speed Laps etc are good - but they are just a one lap sprints.

i'm told the reason that many [inc. the 3 seats] have pulled out is that they do not think their cars will last an hour's racing, ridiculous!

i think some low cost 750MC type races would be an ace idea, with classes for hot hatch, m3/evo types and something i can race the clubman in. if the cost is going to be akin to a couple of trackdays, then DAMC would be laughing and the grids would be full.

Yorky I could not agree with you more. There is nothing worse than seeing ony 5 vehicles in a race.

Certain companies "sponsor" championships we the racers get no prize money, plus pay very high fees for tyres (that don't last more than 1 race day for the bikes).

The problem is that building a race car is not cheap, especially as you have to fit a racing fuel tank. Another thing is that how many people actually know there is racing in Dubai? OK so the autodrome send flyers to Arabian Ranches and Motorcity, but what about Mirdiff, Kharama (spelling?), Satwa etc? A free day out. We need "bums on seats" to sell the idea of sponsorship to potential sponsors.

Next year there should be the following championships:
1) Bikes
2) Touring cars (12 lap sprint races and 1 hour endurance events)
3) Radicals

Any evetn with less than 10 entries, by by.

To highlight the UAE championship costs, we could race in Qatar for a season including flights, hotels bike transport for less than a season at the Dubai Autodrome.........

Same goes for the touring cars in Bahrain......

Not long before teams do "vacate" their local championship.

they really do need to sort this. 8000 for a set of slicks iirc.
