Having two ladysizedlandy's is begining to piss me off. Despite it being a lovely place to while aways the clicks and pretty capable on the soft stuff (ride height being the major issue) it is becoming clear that all other LR2s are driven by women. Plus, I just hate seeing two of the same car next to each other in the car port - seems like a waste.

My wife's is worth probably 65/70k, and that's the one I'd like to be rid of. So the challenge, is to find a PistonHeads qualifying car for the folding that would bring.

Is it possible to find a decent (i.e. not mega miles, not ruined by its current owner, not a dubious import) manual drivers car, that is also suitable for one or two blasts a week to A.D/A.A, for about GBP10k?

In the UK this would be easy!

i read that as your wife was worth 65/70k, which at that price HAS to be have been ruined by the previous owner wink

if we had the uk used car market mate, we'd be like pigs in st. alas, it's not to be.

i'd say it can be done depending on your tastes and comfort [i.e. bork risk] limits.

That M3 is lovely, but I'm not sure it would love my 30-40k per annum, and even Eppco do not stock enough lube to prepare me for that model RS6!

I would love an E46 M3, I think that is the solution.

How about a Mustang? You might find it difficult to get a manual but there are quite a few on offer for 60k and under.

Already had one, great fun but ultimately not a great drive. What's the R32 like for spirited hooning?

The R32 ticks a lot of boxes but it's a long way from being a race car. It generates a fantastic amount of grip and breaks into a satisfying 4-wheel drift when you push a little too hard. However, it can also understeer if you come into a corner way too fast and feels nose-heavy if you try to fling it around like a go-kart.

It's got plenty of power (for a hot-hatch type thing), makes a wonderful noise, is well-built and rides very well. In summary I'd say it's a great all-rounder but if you're looking for pure driving thrills, look elsewhere.

That's exactly what I paid for a '98 Boxster many years ago. Have doubled the mileage since!

Now I've had a Boxster since I've been here, a full spec manual 987 S. I sold it because someone offered me exactly what I'd paid for it six months and 15k after I bought it.

I'd not spent a penny on it so couldn't say no, but I've always regretted the sale because it had more speed than I had talent and was just a lovely thing to punt...

(...off to dubizzle)

That looks sweet as a nut. Slightly over your budget but I am sure if you have crispy folded notes, you get it down.

Needs the worst wheels Porsche ever made taking off it, but other than that looks lovely.

Anyone know what these things are worth in the real world? Is it comparative value to one in the UK/US? Shirt?

I am not ashamed to say that I did a quick search. After a Boxster S and a Mustang V8 such low power is a concern. Even the LR2 has 240bhp!

Checked Car and Classic earlier - seems 10k is about top so AED70k seems a little rich, but it does look lovely.

as I said earlier, if you have ready cash (folded notes) the price will come down.

There is ZERO harm in you contacting the seller and going over to see it. No need to even drive it - appear interested and have a good look around, start her up blah blah blah and see what happens from there.

Power to weight sir, that's the important bit! Get on the phone to BBR and have them send their kit for the mk1 over. You'll eat Boxsters for breakfast and howl with laughter while doing it.
