Hi guys

The in-laws are here for a few days and I'm struggling to come up with somewhere to take them for dinner tonight. Ideally, the place should have some sort of USP (by the beach, nice view etc) and not be ridiculously expensive. Any type of food except Arabic/Lebanese (already stuffed with it!).

I live in the Downtown Burj Khalifa area and we've been spending quite a bit of time round there so somewhere outside the area would be good.

Suggestions appreciated!

Cheers.

Pisces at the Madinat is always good (well, if you like fish)

Or go to the one at the One and only- cocktail first, then boat transfer to the erm, other one and only.

Not cheap though.

Pisces is good but can easily run up a hefty bill.

I like Frankies in JBR but it doesn't have the wow factor for view or anything but is by the beach. The Walk is pleasant enough to walk down this time of year.

Meat Company at Madinat? Sit outside under the Burj al Arab.

Was going to suggest Abed al Wahab in Souk al Bahar until I saw the non Leb proviso.

Any of the restaurants along the Canal at the Madinat Jumeriah - or, catch the little boat thingy and go to that Thai restaurant

However, the Walk at JBR would be your best bet.

PS: do you have an Entertainer Book - use the vouchers, saves you heaps.

Cheers for the suggestions, guys.

Restaurants on the Canal seem like a good shout, I hadn't considered them at all. I'm not a massive fan of the walk at JBR... not sure why just don't like the vibe down there.

Anyway, Meat Co. or Pisces look good. Haven't got an entertainer yet this year but might buy one today and use it tonight.

For a steak, I prefer the Grande Grill at the Habtoor Grand Hotel - you can sit outside too.

I went to the Grande Grill a few weeks back for ribs and chicken all-you-can-eat. Food was very good but service wasn't great and I didn't love the terrace.

i like to take people to ravi on satwa roundabout. no wow factor in terms of scenery but people generally don't expect the food to be so good and it's an experience to sit down on the street with taxi drivers, expats and tourists all together. most clients who i've taken say it was their best meal all week, despite dining 5 star every other night.

the upstairs restaurant in the hilton JBR is decent [have the churrasco, mouthwatering, butter like meats and lots of it!]. you can sit on the terrace overlooking the beach too.

Heard really good things about Ravi - work with a couple of Indians who like the place so thats a good sign.. The Italian at the Madinet is ok - if you are used to good Italian food, you might be slightly disappointed, (I've spent quite a lot of time in Italy), but its not too bad. I took a boat from the main hotel to get there and thats an experience in itself..

Hmm - you know what they say - fab food, fab views, fab prices, pick any two! Most of the restaurants I would suggest are the ones away from the beach, which have to depend on food or value to sustain business, and there are loads of them - Nineteen, Le Classique, Prego - but there is one absolute standout. Table9, at the Hilton Dubai Creek. You're reasonably close from Downtown, and it's not expensive at all. Do check it out.

At the other end of the scale, try Bu Qatair behind the beach near the Burj Al Arab. I mile away on foot, a million miles in concept. No menu, no cutlery, fab fresh fried fish. An experience!

I ended up taking the easy option of the Madinat. Went to Meat Company and it was thoroughly average.

We had a nice table so the setting was ideal but food just wasn't that impressive. My wife ordered a steak and asked for it to be "medium", what she got was possibly the rarest steak I've ever seen. It needed to be sent back twice.

Another guest had a lamb kebab which again was undercooked and extremely fatty. I know lamb isn't the leanest of meats but this was ridiculous.

It'll be Ravi's next time wink

I ate at Meat Co once and wasn't impressed either. Nice surroundings but substandard food IMO.

JW Steakhouse (JW Marriott) & La Parrilla (Jumeirah Beach Hotel)get my vote for steak.

Carnevale at JBH, outside on terrace for views of the Burj.

Think you will be hard pressed to beat the steak at Texas Road House in the Dubai Mall! Aside from the great views that steaks are amazing and cooked well. Yes it's a chain, but the food is on point!

I actually went there last weekend and have to agree that the steak was excellent. Side dishes were less impressive but steak was great.
