Would be interested to know how many people here have this, we don't.

Living in an apartment I'm concerned about potential fire or water damage.

TVs, Hifi, Speakers, Guitars, Amps, etc....

It's fair point, water more than fire though I'd guess.

Interestingly when I called RSA this morning to insure the new beater the lady on the phone offered me contents and belongings insurance.... 250 AED per annum to a limit of 50k AED

Happy to pass on details if needed.

That's what I thought, but the e-mail came through from her confirming that's the price... in fact they have 3 levels of cover

up to 50k AED contents and 10K AED outside home cover for 250AED
up to 100k AED contents and 20k AED outside home cover for 450AED
up to 200k AED contents and 30k AED outside home cover for 800AED

Added benefits include:
1) Free of cost accidental damage for contents
2) Contents cover while you are on holiday for up to 60 days
3) Worldwide cover for personal belongings for up to 60 days
4) Worldwide Personal Liability cover for up to AED 1 million
5) Money at home cover for AED 1,000
6) Contents covered for loss or damage during transit
7) Quick and simplified process to buy policy and make a claim

Excess is 250AED apart from phones and laptops where it's 500aed

sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

PS - i take it my clubman is totally uninsurable, even on a home policy? [theft only]
