I'm popping over to Doha for a week's work and just wondered about greeting English female workmates and friends. Over hear it's a hug and a peck on the cheek but would this be a big no no in Qatar?

Cheers.

PS Sometimes us blokes hug each other as well but it is the entertainment business dahling biggrin

No, that would be an insult here.

Grope of the tits, 3 seconds maximum, is the usual greeting here.

lol, English yes, peck on the cheek is fine.

Arabs, definite, boob grab is encouraged... smile

Qatari jails are fun by all accounts.

And remember, not just the ladies that wear frocks round these parts!

Yes, not many nations have the ability to pull off the teatowel & bedsheet combo so well.

They don't do irony here - I remember speaking to a couple of Sharjah locals with a Scottish friend of mine during one of their parades and discussing the merits of bagpipes. I argued that bagpipes were introduced when that clan from Argyle, the McTooms with their beige tartan, came over to the Middle East in the 17th Century, but that's another conversation completely...

Where was I? Oh, yes.. these Sharjah locals, dressed in their finest frockery started laughing at the notion of wearing kilts. "Look Ahmed, these silly Scottish people wear woman's clothing. HaHaHaHa. Not men like us..."

Is there a Whooosh Camel?

I might just have woken the wife laughing at that one, McTooms, epic.

Just got back. Nice sunny and warm during the day but surprisingly nippy at night if you are just standing around. Glad I took my goose down jacket and gloves biggrin

But a bottle of beer £8.00 yikes although the bar at the Marriott were doing a promotion, for some bottles were only about £4.50. Bargain.

One of our lot fancied a nice glass of red, £18 a glass!!

Not sure that the footie fans in 2022 will be too happy at those prices.

You have spotted the way they will be preventing fans getting drunk, well more than once......

None of us are quite sure how 2022 will work - Qatar is nowhere near as liberal with booze as the UAE, and a pint is around 40QAR (40 AED) here.

Given last week they decided that they (the Tourist Authority no less) decided to ban alcohol sales in the restaurants on 'the Pearl' (Qatar's equivalent of Palm Jumeirah) - where several celebrity restaurants are located. We are now waiting for the ban to be lifted in an equally knee-jerk reaction, or the restaurants to close through lack of trade.

Actions have consequences, something they don't seem to realise here.

Flew Qatar Airways back and on asking for my 3rd glass of wine in 3 hours of flight the stewardess said to me "Sir! are you sure that you should be drinking" biggrin

Edited to add that I'm nearly 50, was smartly dressed and was just sitting quietly watching the movies. For each glass I had to ask at least 3 times, each time waiting about 10 mins before politely asking again. She would say yes then disappear. Would this be company policy? although we didn't have the same problem on the way out as the lovely attendant served us as many beers as we asked for.

It's going to be comical, that's for sure.

I was reading about one stadium being constructed so that you reach it by water taxi. What a great idea!

Now we just need a Purchase Order for 20,000 water taxis to be used for one month, or will they just use the dodgy looking local fishing boats?
