January 2011 I paid 110k for my villa. A similar one now will cost 145k. I can understand we got a good deal initially, but that's a big increase, no?

my understanding is that people are trying to put prices up, but not many are succeeding. a colleague just renewed on a 3 bed with private pool in mirdiff for 80k!

i am considering moving to a villa if i can find one with a proper garage. which areas would have this?

I don't think I've seen a proper garage here....If anything, everyone has covered car-ports.

Just out of curiosity, are these prices for standalone or compound villas? I'm asking because I'm paying 156k QAR for a 4 bed compound villa in Doha (which is middle of the road as far as the market goes). Seems like Dubai is a hell of a lot cheaper than Doha.

Damn, that sounds crazy expensive.
Mine is a detatched 5 bed (plus maid, private pool etc) and I pay 110k, but is a bit out of towm. My previous villa was a 3 bed (same details) in a central location and was 130k.

Some of the more upmarket villas in the ranches have proper double garages, villas on the palm also do.

I have seen a few in springs where owners have roofed over the car port and added garage doors.

i'm not sure i can stretch to a villa on the palm though del! smile

a colleague tells me you can put a door on the carports in the ranches, but i always feel i should have my passport ready for inspection if i go further than emirates road - it's miiiiiles!

heard that springs/greens are quite militant about working on your car, so i guess barsha/jumeirah are where i should look by default?

Thinking about it, one of my colleagues lives in Barsha and he's got a double garage on his villa, so that might be a good shout.

not a clue. i have a friend with a neat 3 bed bungalow in jumeirah with a walled courtyard and garage, i'll enquire how much.

i'm very much happy where i am but think my flatmate wants to give up the lease on renewal [march] and if i have to sign a lease i want somewhere worth the bother.

There are some 2 beds in both Falcon City and Mirdif for <100k with a garage also.

Doha is expensive, my 1 bed apartment is a shade under 100k (plus extortionate bills).

My 6 bed monster is 230k, not bad when compared with Meadows or Ranches.

I think that you got a very good deal - best I've heard for those is 130/140

Really, you aren't allowed to work on your car on your own driveway? Is that the same for all of Dubai or just springs/greens?

depends on the rules of the development. very abitrary and completely unsurprising.

edit - you can work on your car, but there are rules like you can't leave it on axle stands overnight etc. basically limiting major projects.
