Medical what to expect?
Discussion
I have my medical in Dubai next week, what should i expect. I absolutely hate needles!!!
how long will i have to wait for the results of the medical before i can collect my residence permit?
The company who i work for seem to be running around like headless chickens but not telling me much!

I had a medical a month or so ago.
Due to being English I just needed 1 blood test and a chest x-ray, unlike others who had a whole battery of blood samples / x-rays / checkovers.
Results were about a week, but you can pay to fast track for the same day IIRC.
I am now waiting for my ID card which seems to be taking foreva.

Thanks and bugger, I was only planning on a short stay next week. Fly in Monday out by Friday. Seems that they may not happen!
I am not due to move to Abu Dhabi until January but need to pick up my permit before my Employment permit expires in december!
I absolutely hate blood tests.. The last one i had i knocked out the doctor! better not do that this time!

Finger up the bottom - Prostate cancer
i think the doctor must have liked the look of you there mate!OP - if your company PRO is any good it should be a 5min max job.
surprised they're flying you out just for the medical tbh, do you look like you're at death's door?
2nd and 3rd are rugby 7's days. if that's not your bag, there's the emirates classic car show on the 2nd [emaar boulevaard, next to dubai mall] and a PH pissup planned for thursday 1st.

Medical, visa, and some meetings. Also full introduction to the office I am taking over.
I hate blood tests too mate, but these are fine. If you HAVE to go to the Municipality centre make sure you wear a suit and look important!!! You'll be ushered straight to the front of the queue.Sure you'll feel guilty and sorry for those you have just passed....but that only lasts 2 minutes!PRO disappeared for 2 minutes then came back and ushered me past about 100 people into the Doc's room. Doctor asked me my name, said "you English?" to which replied "yes".
Then said "Thanks" and sent me for blood sampling. No Xray or anal probing (WHAT the feck is that about???). Visa took about 10 days.
Good luck and hope you get different 'doctor' to DXBTiger......
Check for prostate cancer??? Yeah right...

On a nerdy but serious note that is not the current test for Prostate cancer.
(Its Subject is close to home as my Dad had the big C, thankfully okay now.)
They now do a simple blood test, its called a PSA test, but that is NOT part of the visa medical test here.
on a similar tangent, who's doing movember? [for prostate cancer charities]. i have a full handlebar stache and mutton chops. (Its Subject is close to home as my Dad had the big C, thankfully okay now.)

Heard about this from a colleague who used to work in NZ. They take the Movember thing very seriously there. I think we're a bit late for this year but it's something we ought to do next year.
Have you got any contact details for this?
I'll need a year to get the missus used to the idea of have one of the village people living with her (she hates facial hair)... and for me to get used to the idea of a whole month without any 'oats'

just go to movember.com
there's no UAE site so we haven't got a page for donations, but most guys in our office are sporting child-worrying facial hair and we are accepting donations these will either go to a local men's health charity or we'll send the cash to add to that raised by our glasgow office.
working on site, hard hat & overalls, big tache......

Just had a thought (yes it HURT before anybody says it..)
Question for OP - You said you're moving to Abu Dhabi right? Are you going to work for one of the Oil & Gas Companies?
If so, their medicals are much more thorough and include tests for drugs as well.....
Good luck
