They deserve one of their own...

My bills now averaging 8k per month, up from last years 3-4k per month.
At least Dick Turpin had the decency to wear a mask.

Perhaps I could re-write that for them...
"DEWA will always make a shed load as they can (and do) charge whatever the hell they like. You don't agree? Tough, pay the bill. Already paid it? Tough, pay it again. The meter says what? Tough, pay it.
8,000 a month? Dan that's a joke mate, what sort of place are you running there? Thought mine was bad at 2,500.

Dan - I sympathise. I have the same issues with DEWA (and similar bills) but they don't care. Like Chilli says, it's Goodfellas.
If you ask them to check whether the meter's playing up, they charge you AED30 and tell you it's fine. It's never not fine. A leak is always on "your" side of the meter.
This place needs some competition.
And let's not forget we're subsidising locals who have made the UAE the largest per capita carbon footprint in the world. Teaching them about environmental responsibility is pointless when they can leave their sprinklers on forever.

We had the same thing Bills went from 2k to over 4k in one month (not in summer either) Summer was higher again.
This is a bit long winded I know and it took nearly 4 months for it to be sorted but.....
We approached them and raised a formal complaint. To which they stated it was the 5% tax and fuel uplift. We replied that this was always on our bills since January and this was not the reason. We pointed out that electrical consumption was doubling monthly. They refused to accept this so we had it tested by our own facillities company to which they found a faulty DEWA meter. DEWA agreed to come and test it (at a cost to us) and have it witnessed by our company.
They then sent a team to check and aparently did this on their own with no witnesses and they claimed the meter was ok. The week later DEWA were found working on my meter during the day when I should have been at work. Lucky for me I came home that afternoon and took pictures. The month after that my readings and costs were back to normal.
We've had our PRO people now in contact with DEWA for a rebate on the over charges. They are standing by their claims that there was never a problem and no one had been to my villa but thankfully my bills are where they should be.
I dont expect to get our money back.

Erm, just quickly, for those that haven't already done so, please look at Ron's profile pics....I have wood!
That story above is a typical example of the way things are done here. They are constantly wrong and yet maintain their innocence even though the damn well know they are in the wrong. Why? They (as in DEWA workers, etc, etc) do not own the company, their personal circumstances will not be affected if it turns out your bill is wrong. How do these people sleep at night KNOWING that they are wrong and have fked you over for a load of cash.
It's theft, simple theft and yet no-one, ABSOLUTELY no-one cares. Pisses me off.

I once tried to book a herd of 'models' from an agency in Dubai for a 'photoshoot' that included them foaming up mine and a few mates cars.
About 4 agencys told me to 'Foxtrot Oscar'!
Edit to get back on topic:
I have got them to fleece me for 70 Dirhams to check the meter already.
I have also checked last years bill and found that in October we used almost exactly the same amount of units.....in 2010 the cost was 3.5k, in 2011 it was 8k. They have put up the price per unit and added a % tax.
It's shameful and blatent robbery of a population that has no choice but to pay.
