During the commute home today I was doing my daily rant to myself about the multitude of poor driving; the rolling Indian roadblocks, the zig-zagging Landcruisers, the Labourers playing chicken etc etc - then realised at that moment I was undertaking someone down the hard shoulder.

I did chuckle to myself.

Driving like a local in no time I see. I just hope I can switch it off when I go back to the UK.

If you drove like you do in the UK you'd be dead in a month out here! For example, last night on my way home some plonker flew past me in a Silver Nissan Sunny on the hard shoulder!

I was a tad late for work theother day, so needed to make some time up. Drove as fast as I dared, and it felt pretty good, with no-one being a pain, getting in my way or anything. I reccommend it.

Driving in UK is a real shock the odd times I do it when I am back.

Undertaking on the M1, flashing people to move rather than the usual 'on you go mate' always surprises people.

I used to flash people here, as a nice gesture to let them pull out.....then I realised how everyone drives here and understood why they jumped on the brakes and didn't go anywhere!

Yep, I remember the first day I got my hire car, flashing people trying to get onto SZ road caused absolute havoc, didn't take long to learn.

I still flash people here occasionally, though the lack of dark underpasses and having security in the parks makes it a lot less fun than at home.

Guess we all had fun in the fog this morning then. Emirates road + pea soup fog = No lights on so many vehicles.

Ahh so that's why I had so much fun on only my second driving trip in Dubai..I suspect my road rage gauge is going to fill up rather quickly.

Bloody idiots on the road out here. Even Libya was easier to drive in.

Yup - usual cock-knobbery this morning down to Abu Dhabi.

Watch the road rage. An innocent gesture can be completely misconstrued here. I keep my hands firmly clamped to the wheel after a couple of bad experiences.

Just take a pic of the reg with your mobile phone and report the nutjobs. I have found that to be very effective.

I find it sadly depressing and angrily pissed off that people simply don't care about others.

Haha, as a measure of the quality of KSA driving....when I was in Dubai last month I was surprised at how calm, law abiding and safe the roads felt! I was surprised when a chap who lives there said the driving was awful!

I've found if you remain calm, be patient, watch your mirrors and go with the flow you tend the get through ok...
