My company have just sent off all my forms for a Work Permit/Visa for AUH. Im not to sure when i am moving over perminantly but it will be before the new year. I wanted to defer to Jan 2012 but my workload in AUH is ramping up and i need to be there now more than the UK.
The accomodation is sorted and travel sorted for the first week or so, but the first thing on my shopping list is a car.
The villa i have has always been fully stocked with food, but it has always missed the vital thing. Tea Bags!!!!!!! how likely is it that i will get pulled for bringing in a large box of teabags. I recall someone on here was called in to the customs depot for a check but cant remember what that was for.
Last question can you get SatNav for Abu Dhabi?

that was me, for not much of a reason whatsoever. i didn't have to attend in the end [it was my shipping, not airport luggage], nothing appeared to have been opened and i reckon it was just a method of extracting a few hundred dhs from me.in my shipping were 480 yorkshire tea bags and my yorkshire tea teapot. accept no substitute! lipton is the main brand here and it's ste.
you can get the majority of home foods, though some aren't worth the cost over the local option imo. that said, finding monster munch was one of the best days i've had out here!
you must remember to bring shower gel though.....

PH Tea Matters
Abu Dhabi is pretty easy to navigate and for the most part is laid out similiarly to an American grid system...what is not so easy is parking. When I am down there I tend to park up in a convinient location and just taxi between appointments, miles easier
My Office is located above the Ali&sons Car Dealership on Corniche Road. But i will be travelling from a Villa near the South African Embassy.Abu Dhabi is pretty easy to navigate and for the most part is laid out similiarly to an American grid system...what is not so easy is parking. When I am down there I tend to park up in a convinient location and just taxi between appointments, miles easier

Don't talk to me about parking in the main bit of Ab Dabs - makes Dubai look empty.Abu Dhabi is pretty easy to navigate and for the most part is laid out similiarly to an American grid system...what is not so easy is parking. I know that building, VW dealership?
Nice location, but as above parking can be a bh - there's a reasonable carpark outside, so go early and you might be ok.
Yea VW/Audi dealership. Nice location, but as above parking can be a bh - there's a reasonable carpark outside, so go early and you might be ok.
Parking is a pain, but made even worse as you have to buy the parking card from the DOT office or other authorised outlet.
There does seem to a few PH type cars parked around there. Black Roush Mustand, Viper, and 2x Porche GT3.

'a bit'?
I would want 'a lot' to choose KSA over UAE
25k more per year. But in real terms works out about 35k more as i do not have to buy and run a car! I would want 'a lot' to choose KSA over UAE

commiserations. my flatmate works there during the week and comes back to dubai each weekend.
I know there is nothing to do there! But the work is secure for a further 2 years. and the company in AUH is selling a 90% stake in the business to an unnamed company. Also the management have been very closed and not letting anything go the last time i was over there. The AUH job only have work commited for a further 6 weeks and then nothingEdited by stevieb on Monday 3rd October 11:05

KSA is a 'bit' of a culture shock but I hear that there's plenty of opportunity for diving off the coast of Jeddah; which is more than can be said for Riyadh!Edited by stevieb on Monday 3rd October 11:05
