or at least it will be when i get some food and sleep [have had a total of 8hrs sleep since thursday!]

spent the past 2 weeks wondering why i didn't leave the uk sooner. such a negative attitude to everything there at the minute. chavvers everywhere, i even got spat at by some knob hanging out the window of his mate's corsa as he stuck fingers up and shouted at passers-by.

rained a bucket load, everything felt expensive, and all my mates seemed to be on a downer.

only ups were the seaside, fish & chips, black sheep ale, leeds fest [pulp=awesome] and the wildlife. feeding the ducks and squirrels after a walk/row in the park was pretty fantastic after all this heat & dust.

Other than Pulp how was Leedsfest?

Used to go every year, its 3 miles from my folks place as the crow flies but the line up looked pretty weak this year.

lineup was pretty poo tbh. the people i went with on the sunday did so for the strokes, who were rubbish, moody and lacklustre. the kills were pretty decent but all the others were just the latest trendy kids with nice haircuts but no good tunes.

i really only went for pulp as i was supposed to go see them in budapest a few weeks back. cocker was fantastic and hung the whole gig together with a rough storyline he was telling between songs. richard hawley also appeared for a few songs at the end.

i didn't think much of bramham park though, didn't have a good atmosphere and no theatre about the main stage. much preferred temple newsham back in t'day. that was about 3-4miles ATCF from my folks too, bramham much further but apparently they could still hear it.

i bought a guitar the day before the gig so am obviously gonna be a rock star this time next week.

i'd go back to europe, but doubt i'll live in the uk for a long while yet.

some more whinges:

digital tv switchover meant a £300 bill for new aerial install.

a washing machine cost me £300 and you still have to wash, iron and put away the clothes yourself!

a 10 mile taxi ride from my parents' to leeds station cost me the same as the 100km from AUD to Jebel Ali.

kfc refused to deliver

i had to vacuum the house, like, 3 times in 2 weeks!

on the upside, the boiler repairman and the electrician knew what they were talking about and fixed things using parts they'd had the foresight to bring with them, and didn't jangle their head once! i also think dubai needs a decent park replete with squirrels and ducks.

Mate, I've found myself doing the head-wobble more and more often.

I have a kingfisher that visits my garden....It's a start!

After 10 years out here, I'm psyching myself up to return to the UK. Oldest takes her 11+ soon and then we decide what to do next. Plus I'm not entirely comfortable about running my own firm here - the legal system is so fragile. But you're right: so many people in the UK are on a downer wanting to get out.

Still, at least this means many happy hours on Autotrader trawling for cheap as chips luxo barges.

the little park in dubai media city has a handful of ducks who appreciate a spot of old white sliced now and again

Safa park is also pretty good - a bit lacking on the squirrel front, but does have some monster turtles living in the lake.

Mushrif park has some horses and goats - does that count?

Just spent a very very enjoyable 5 days in Dubai. I have been back here 10 hours and I am deeply depressed.

You guys are lucky to live and work there.

I'll bin this place off if I ever have to move house again...Until then I'm staying put and enjoying the lifestyle as eight months of perfect weather is just around the corner and I choose how much tax I pay by varying the weight of my right foot. Happy days!

I'm just back in after 18 days in the UK as well.

Not quite as negative on the experiences as Phil, but still overall I'm glad to be back and living somewhere where the general attitude is "can do" even if it takes months "to do" lol

Also, is it just me or does the humidity seem a bit lower than 3 weeks ago?

You're right, the humidity has reduced a lot. It's still a bit too hot but I'm thinking that when I get back from holiday at the end of Sept, the weather will be ideal. I feel like I've been trapped in the house for ages!

Yeah I think we have turned the corner with the weather.

I made a pact with myself last year to go only go back for weddings and funerals. I think I'm even going to ignore the funerals unless its absoulte immediate family
