With Etihad I could take on 2 pieces of onboard baggage (laptop bag + standard 115cm bag) - but it seems Emirates is only one standard 115cm bag, is that the case, or do people take more?

Also, any issues with golf clubs? My set weighs about 20kg including the flight bag - the site says it's free but doesn't seem to mention any weight limits.

Emirates said:
Thank you for your enquiry.

A lap top is classed as one piece of hand luggage, it may be carried, however it will need to be placed inside your main hand baggage as only one piece of hand luggage is permitted and the weight must not exceed 7kg in Economy class.

In addition to the normal checked baggage allowance one (1) set of golf equipment per passenger will be carried free as checked baggage on all Emirates sectors. This applies to all classes. Normal excess baggage rates apply for additional sets.

Golf equipment is classified as a golf bag containing a set of clubs and pair of shoes.
So that answers my original question - have to stick my Laptop inside my other bag.

I assume they will be fine with a Golf bag padded flight case...

So pack the pockets of the golf bag with other stuff you want to bring out which saves on weight in the suitcase which means you can put more stuff in the suitcase. Did this when I moved from Delhi to Dubai, my golf bag had my full set, my shoes, balls, tees, gloves, books and the lads half set.....

Put a rucksack inside your laptop bag and take it out after check-in. If you buy duty free you will have more than one bag anyway.

They let you have a kids push-chai if travelling with kids.

Ours came with a carry-bag which got stuffed with other stuff, ended up at 25kg smile

Total was 109kg for 2 adults and a child. Helps if you are a Skywards Member too.

They said they would transfer my Etihad Silver status across after I took one business class flight. I enquired about upgrading tonight, and thought that for <£500 I'd do it - but they came back wanting £1500 extra - I politely declined!

just got off an etihad flight, i will def. be thinking twice about it in future despite the price difference with emirates.

AUD airport is shockingly bad. not just the lack of food places, but the queues for passport control and taxis were bloody unreal this morning. taxi queue the same as you'd get outside dubai mall, but with 5 taxis on the rank!

also etihad economy is prob. the most uncomfortable i've endured. outbound was quite empty so i ligged across 2 seats, but on the way back was sardines and my legs are killing me.

also, at least dubai taxi drivers vaguely know where things are in dubai, i may have swore/shouted a lot earlier!

PS - forgot the point of posting: you can take a guitar case on to any flight [i did with etihad] in addition to your hand luggage and it isn't weighed. get one of the flight case style ones, remove the thick foam and jobs a good un.

it is a ballache travelling with a guitar tho, i had drug sniff tests on everything and had all my luggage opened & inspected.
