So, the end of Ramadan.... is it today or tomorrow?!

Public sector will have it as of tomorrow as far as I can work out - they'll probably find an excuse to have next week off as well.
Public sector off all of this week. They announced the public sector based on gregorian calendar, and private sector get Shawwal 1 and 2 off, except they don't know when that is.
So fvkcing backward
I know - but they always do it to make sure the public sector has the maximum amount of time off.
One of my clients was a bank and the moaning from the locals that worked there when one of the holidays fell at the weekend and they 'only' got one extra day off (private got jack).
Never met more workshy people in my life.
Backwards? At least going backwards shows momentum of some sort - we're firmly fixed in the Dark Ages and we ain't going anywhere, any time soon.

Announcements that the moon has been sighted in China and the Philippines. Eid already declared (I think) in Malaysia and the USA on the basis of calcs. But Indonesia, New Zealand and Oman are declaring August 31st.
I reckon UAE will declare Eid for Wednesday. (Boo hiss).
Will find out in about an hour.

I suspect it was a political thing. Saudi announced it at maghrib time (setting of the sun) which is a joke as how on earth they could have seen the moon with the naked eye at that time is anyone's guess. UAE which is an hour later followed suit as they tend not to deviate from the Saudi line (which kind of negates a moon sighting committee).
It was theoretically possible to have seen the new moon on Monday night from the UAE (at least according to the astronomy blog I checked) so I guess there's some rationale in following suit.
Maybe a bit facetious, but I tend to think of it as a bit like umpire technology in cricket: you can make the whole process technology dependent and lose the charm of the game (i.e. what's the point in appealing) or you can retain the human element. I took my kids out for a walk on the beach on Monday night to spot the Eid moon (we couldn't! ) which is kind of a nice memory for them as they grow up. Personally I like the randomness of it but I wish they would make the Eid holidays fixed in advance as that's just common sense.

This is my main issue, didn't affect me so much but people i work with had flights booked etc etc, choose Gregorian or Hijri for all, don't differentiate.Harris_I said:
