etihad business class - worth it?
Discussion
I don't think business is ever "worth it" when you look at it objectively.
In fact it's a massive fking rip off.
Of course if I wasn't forced to fly economy everywhere by company policy (including intercontinental) I might have a different view. But I have to convince myself that business is rubbish - even when I'm forced to walk through it on my way to economy.

i just declined. need to do lots of boring stuff whilst home to get my house rentable, and that would pay for a washing machine [i know, i know....]
since moving out here i seem to be taking lots of flights - 8 last week alone! already i will avoid klm where poss. as i can't get comfy. malaysian was really impressive all round, extra leg room each way, fit hosties and generous with the booze
etihad any good? only took it as it was 2k cheaper than emirates.

it's a pity chelsea towers aren't convenient for me to get to, dropping luggage off the night before is a great idea. the coach leaves from the marina mall though which is handy.
pre-flight massage is defeating the object imo. i save it for when i land, feet first at the dubai mall do a great 60min massage for 180chips.

I agree with Mr Gearchange that Business Class isn't worth it when it's your own money. However, if you're feeling flush 1,900 seems reasonable value for the upgrade.
I've been lucky enough to travel Business Class quite a bit with work. There's no doubting that it makes flying a far nicer experience, but when it's my own hard-earned at stake I can never justify the extra cash.
Suck up the pain of economy for 7 hours and then blow the 300 quid on something worthwhile!

I'd be tempted too, especially for the return flight. On that route I am usually on the overnight flight on the way back and Etihad beds are pretty good if you are against the bulkhead. For me business class is worth it if over 6/7 hours or travelling overnight, I tend just to get some kip now rather than tuck into the tasty treats/tarts with carts.
I usually manage to wangle business class with work but with times being what they are am on BA premium economy in Ocober. But on Etihad business class back home for Xmas...all on the company.

If I get the overnight flight back from UK I'll go business, however I am normally asleep within 10 minutes of taking off and only wake once breakfast is served in dubai. Emirates A380 has one of the best business class IMHO. Also you get to use the lounges at both ends which is always handy.
a380 is the afternoon flight on the mcr route for some reason. the last 3 trips back from the UK i did on the red eye - klm and emirates. i used to be able to fall asleep before take off but these days i seem to end up watching st films and trying to drink all the whisky before landing. not good to be pissed and knackered at work though.
I pay as little as possible for flights - I sit on a st chair at a cheap desk for ten to twelve hours a day so sitting on a reclining seat getting sozzled for seven hours is a doddle.
I used to fly regularly from the UK to the states in Business and it is lovely (airline dependent), but I just don't see it as a good enough spend of my money. I work upgrades out on a cost/time basis; sitting in a slightly bigger seat back to the UK is deffo not worth a pound a minute.
I always try to minimise the 'airport experience' as the two hours getting in and the hour getting out is where all the stress is. My watch, belt, coins, phone and wallet are in the bag when I leave the house and don't come out until I am sat with a pint or a coffee on the other side - no shopping either, unless it is booze top ups on the way back in!

i am, and i agree with his post! free shuttle to the airport and 7hrs of free booze is how i roll. i also stick everything in the flight bag and aim to arrive 10mins before check in closes. airports [and flights] are boring unless you're getting on something with 12seats or less.
