Can you turn up and drive a single seater there? Or, could a group of you (read us)turn up, pay a few quid and have, say, a 30 min race?
You can hire the open single seaters, but no racing (no timed events) as you follow a TT with a DA Instructor in it. Oilydan has done the single seater thing a while ago.We asked the question on Friday: "could say 10 of us turn up in rented Yaris' for a Track Evening" and they said "sure, no problem, there is no agreement between DA and the Rental Company, so the onus is on the person who rents the car to get it back in one piece" - hey presto. However, I am sure the Clerk of the Course would not be too happy seeing 10 Yaris' lined up to fight it out down the main straight and into Turn 1! hahahahaha

i'm told they don't even let you drive the 250cc karts until you've been 10times, so a pay-arrive-race scenario ain't happening imo. i really want to race something soon tho, even if it's just the rental.
We could arrange a race on the 'normal' carts.PH ME karting trip!
There are all sorts of criteria to get in the 250's including a maximum allowed laptime that is quite quick.
I'm not interested in following someone around! Mrs C once bought me one of those red letter day thingy's, and I let it expire as I couldn't be arsed to go all that way, sit through 36 hours of talks, to then have 30 seconds in a 355!
The 250 karts...aren't they the "adult" ones they use for the indoor circuit?
Would love to race SOMETHING other than the Yaris/Civic!!!

Don't think so, although it is a long time since i did the indoor. The 250 karts...aren't they the "adult" ones they use for the indoor circuit?

I think karting is the easiest way to get 'racing'
Otherwise it's a track night, advanced group so you can overtake everywhere.
Not sure whether Yas offer anything different
Ok, so lets talk about karting. Could I, buy a kart (and all the gear) and apply to race in the gay novices group of some kind of series?
I wonder if I'd have to have this licence, that licence....etc, etc. ie would it be just too much of a headache. Whilst I love racing and going fast, I'd never even touch the thing wehen I got home and certainly wouldn't be scouring the net looking for modifications....not that I'd know what one is of course!
I guess Harris would know all this?

He may do, the few times I've had to call the Autodrome they do actually seem to know what they are talking about, try them. I know karts come up on Dubizzle here and thereI wonder if I'd have to have this licence, that licence....etc, etc. ie would it be just too much of a headache. Would imagine you'll have to have some kind of licence, but that is common sense and we are in Dubai....

Very true!
Right then, who wants to start karting?!
on dubaipetrolheads, there's a chap who bought a zetec caterfield from the autodrome for less than 20kAED. he said at the time they had others for sale as well. Right then, who wants to start karting?!
i would be up for going in for a share of something like that or getting a kart. both have their merits. lack of garaging is an issue for me tho.

That would be very tempting to start a fund for, karts are pretty pricey!i would be up for going in for a share of something like that or getting a kart. both have their merits. lack of garaging is an issue for me tho.
Got a link?
not sure where the original thread is, but here's the updates:

original thread was a 'what track car under 20k' and when asked he confirmed he bought it for less than that.

Just to chuck in my Autodrome karting knowledge:
RX250 karts are a right hoot. They're much less used than the RX7 regular rental karts, and so in better condition. They're about 6 or 7 seconds a lap quicker around the outdoor track too.
If you want to race, you can get a bunch of people together and organise a track rental, or you could do what I do and compete in the Sodi World Series events. They use less knackered version of the RX7s, but if you've got the required laptime/been 10 times you can race the RX250s. You don't need any kit other than shoes (although lots of people do buy their own suits and helmets) and it's between 450AED and 650AED per race meeting, which gets you qualifying and two 20 minute races against all comers. The races are held in amongst the Rotax races across the full day, so there's lots of action and goings on.
I've been doing the RX7 races for a couple of years and really enjoy them - there's the full spectrum of talent turning up from proper racing drivers honing their skills to people that have never raced anything before, so you're pretty much guaranteed some good battles with people of a similar standard. And you won't get proper race thrills for much cheaper.

Hmmmmm, tempting, I've done a 1.14 on the st carts so qualify time wise, not sure if I have officially been 10 times though, do you have to have?RX250 karts are a right hoot. I really want the Cosworth Caterham on Gulfsports website as a track toy / winter runabout but haven't got that kind of cash!
- goes off to google Sodi World Series*
So do you have to do anything with the Autodrone or can you register via the SWS site?
Next one is September.
Stupid question number 1 - Theoretically you can just pitch up on the night and race, don't need anything except the required clothing?
