Hi guys

I'm probably going to buy a car this weekend and do the whole transfer of ownership thing at Tasjeel (if there's one open on Saturday).

Has anyone done this before? How do you deal with the insurance? Will I need to get the insurance arranged before we go to the Tasjeel centre?

Cheers

It's relatively simple:

Once you've decided on the the car you want to buy, you and the owner head down to Tasjeel for a transfer of title inspection at Tasjeel.

For the insurance, you can sort this prior to the event or you can use the insurance broker at Tasjeel to get it there and then.

Once the car has passed you present your insurance documentation at the counter along with all the other documentation (application form, passport copy, insurance, pass certificate, licence copy, grandmothers school leaving certificate, etc).

Cheers Mark. Seems relatively straightforward then.

On a separate note, the car needs a service and a few other bits and bobs. I'll send you a seperate email about that...

if the car fails at first inspection, can you still complete the transfer of ownership? assuming i do a deal on the pork this weekend and the fails are minor [i.e tyres] i'd want to avoid fking about having it pinged about.

cheers geoff, but my wuestion still stands as i want to avoid pinging the car about on a low loader if it fails on something silly [i know the tyres need changing for instance].

also, i need to go to the bank later re: a loan. i might get a personal loan as opposed to a car loan as i don't have the 20% deposit [found a flat, so an expensive month!]. will they let me have one to buy a car with? they seem to throw money at you here so i would assume it's ok.

I assume: The car will be driven, under its own steam, to Tasjeel?

If so, and if it fails, it will be driven out again to get the "faults" fixed (even to replace the tyres) and then driven back to Tasjeel for its re-test? Why you want to fanny about with low loaders?

I do not think they will let you exchange the car until it has passed tasjeel!

They may ask you what the Personal Loan is for, but thats it - as long as you are "safe" in their eyes and requirements, they don't give a damn what you do with the loan (unless things have changed????) The interest rate will be slightly higher on a Personal Loan v that of a Car Loan (minor if memory serves).

cheers for the info. i've a figure in mind for repayment and as long as it meets that then who cares about the rate. it's not a big amount anyway.

as for the car, it's an import with no plates. had it delivered to saluki on a flatbed and will be doing the same for tasjeel. just mark advised me to try the test and just fix what they fail it on. as it's likely to be minor [tyres, cv boot] i'd just want to pay the dealer and take the car to saluki prior to retesting.

Jap import but originally from Germany? Sweet, can understand the flat-bed then. Good luck with it - hope she gets thru the inspection.

For yours Shirt, as it's an import, they will inspect the chassis number and car very closely to see whether its a cut and shut. Make sure that you have the Vehicle Clearance Certificate (VCC) from the dealer to show that import duties have been paid.
