Evening,

Thought I'd ask this here rather than Holiday bit as wanted a bit of local knowledge.

I've been in Dubai a couple of times and enjoyed it. Thinking of taking the good lady back out again for a few days in July or Aug (yes, I know it's warm).

We've stayed previously in Le Royal Meridien & Grosvenor House. I'm now a Hilton Diamond member, so keen to perhaps avail of whatever benefits this gives me. I recall it's close by those hotels. However, is it a bit crap? Would you recommend it for a short break?

Thanks

There are a couple of Hiltons, both are ok but not fantastic. I guess it depends on how much you want to impress the lady - is it your wife or someone elses?!

My standard recommendation is the Westin. Not ridiculously expensive but newer than most and very nice.

It's my own wife I'm afraid. Not overly concerned on budget, this is a short break to make up for me being away every bloody week in Sweden for last 6 months.

I think you hit the nail on the head - they are ok, not fantastic, whereas our stays in Grosvenor & Royal Meridien have been fantastic.

Will check out Westin.

What about Atlantis?

Thanks

I really wouldn't come during Ramadan in August. Have you looked at the Ritz-Carlton along JBR....very nice there. Atlantis would get on my tits with all the non-resident tourists everywhere!

Atlantis is good if you like fake boobs and eastern europeans with lots of money and no taste.

If budget not really an issue I'll throw The one and only royal mirage. Friends who have more cash than I rate it as the best hotel in Dubai, same part of town as the others mentioned here.

Hands down the One & Only Royal Mirage. There are two sides to the hotel, The Palace and The Arabian Court. The latter being my favourite.

One & Only also opened a hotel on The Palm not too long ago. I can't comment as I haven't been but friends say it's nice.

Do hold off until September if you can. You won't be able to venture outside and use their lovely beach and pool facilities. Ramadan is a killer too - no eating in public, no booze until 730pm onwards.

Avoid Atlantis at all costs.

thanks folks.

So, One & Only it appears to be, albeit with the choice of three!

Consensus seems to be avoid August, so looking mid Sep

Will see what I can find....we very nearly moved out a few years back as I fell in love with the place but then a baby knocked that on the head.

Out of interest, if in the know - job wise, what sort of cash are you talking for a CTO of a largish organisation (10k + employees)??

Anyone fancy a beer?

If you're waiting til Sept it might be worth hanging on a couple of weeks until the end of the month or early Oct - the heat just drops away around then and it becomes a much nicer place to be.

What is a CTO?

Chief technology officer I'd assume.

And yeah sufficient would be my guess!

Ah - IT. I met a CPO the other week; Chief People Officer. I hope his peers call him C3PO and do the robot dance behind his back.

Why is everyone a Chief these days? I want to be a Chief. Must work harder.....

Just to throw in a curveball, the Intercontinental at DFC is my favourite hotel in Dubai that I've stayed at - it just seems to have a slight edge on vibe for me. Only downer is it's not on the beach.
Otherwise, Weston or Meridien Mina Seyahi.

My saying at work in the UK is normally 'too many Chiefs and not enough Indians'.

Not really applicable there though wink
