Having read the article on the gulf news about the police dishing out leaflets, I was about to add a comment at the bottom. All written out saying just what I thought. However it may have been critical of the authorities and the police.
Do you really think they read and act if they read something they didn't like? Has anyone any expereice or stories relating to such a thing?

I put on one about the lack of seatbelt and it hasn't appeared yet.Do you really think they read and act if they read something they didn't like? Has anyone any expereice or stories relating to such a thing?
My gut is that it never will, will be happy to be proved wrong..
I've been mulling over the idea of launching a website for a while, would highlight the idiocy of drivers here.
All i'd need is a gopro camera or something similar inside my car and without a doubt you would have new material from every single journey.
Domain names can be had for next to nothing, not sure you'd get away with hosting it here though.
Wonder how long it would take before the TRA blocked the site...

Perhaps approach the RTA and offer to do something in conjunction with them,a bit like a special constable back home! All i'd need is a gopro camera or something similar inside my car and without a doubt you would have new material from every single journey.

They do FoS here - They call it 'Self Censorship'.
Problem is, no one actually knows what the boundaries are so everyone heavily censors themselves.
Then you have the advertising purchasing power here. As only a handful of families hold the reigns to most of the large groups, they have immense media power.
7 Days was critical of an individual of one of the families a few years back. Source checked, actual reportage for a change and in response three large groups withheld their advertising and nearly bankrupted the paper as a show of strength and a warning. Whatever you think about 7 Days, if you know the history of how and why it was set it, it was promised total FoS to break new ground but it had its balls chopped off very early on as a number of influential people didn't like the fact that their dirty washing might get aired.
We've all done business in this region and very rarely does even 1% of all the underhand st go reported.
There is zero freedom of press

This sort of thing happens the world over, just on a smaller geograpghical scale - powerful families in a city or borough who have lots of influence. Dubai might be a nation and a rich one at that, but it is only really a city in scale. Problem is, no one actually knows what the boundaries are so everyone heavily censors themselves.
