cheap authentic indian restaurant?
Discussion
ravi's is definitely a place i'll return to. went to the satwa one, very pleased to pass the kitchen and seeing the chefs at work as we walked to our table.
i took the guys who have been working with me all week - one brit, one german, one iranian. i had thought they would know their way around a Pakistani menu but it seemed not. being a long time fan of manchester, birmingham & bradford's curry houses i managed to describe a good 90% of the menu, hoping we'd order several dishes to share.
they all had a mixed grill, but to be fair the reports were very praiseworthy, even from the iranian guy. i had lamb chops, lamb palak [spinach, saag gosht back home] and aloo paneer omyomyom.
saag gosht is my favourite curry dish and the one i always order when trying a new curry house as it inevitably determines whether i eat there again. even on the bone, this was a sheer pleasure, with flavours i haven't had before and a very thick, rich sauce. the lamb chops were also a delight, very meaty and tender with just the right level of spice. they weren't as good as my favourite manc nepalese place, but at 20dhs a plateful i can't complain. all round it was a great meal, highly authentic and amazing value.
sitting outside made for a sweaty time of it but i'll def. be returning. with rice, naan, drinks and ice cream all round, the bill for four was 208AED. it'd easily have fed 6 or more, great stuff.

Best Indian in Dubai is Gazebo - by a long shot - also very consistant.
My personal favourite Dubai curry house is Aangan in the Dhow Palace hotel. The food is very good and the live Indian band add to the overall experience. It's licensed too, so you can enjoy a cold Kingfisher with your curry. i ordered burrah chops lazeez [chargrilled lamb chops], achari gosht, pilau rice, 2 butter rotis and veg raita. dubai 2 stone here i come!
98AED for that lot and a bargain imo. very very good food and top quality meat. the chops were sublime and the achari very rich and flavoursome.
need more visits before i decide ravi over gazebo but they both definitely get top marks from me. both very different experiences but there's not a lot in it on a purely culinary basis. gazebo's meat is better quality, but that's where the extra cash is going.
i am actually thinking of living in bur dubai or even deira purely for cheap, tasty eating options :fatsmiley:

I like Saravana Bhavan in Karama.
It's all vegetarian but all very very tasty. I never would have dreamt of ordering a vegetarian curry in the past (if there was a perfectly good lamb, beef or chicken dish available), but this place has totally opened my eyes to veggie food. Especially their dosa masalas.
It's ridiculously cheap and the food is served on those metal TV-tray type things that they use in prison!!

Couldn't get a table at the bur dubai gazebo so I'm posting this as I wait for my takeaway order
You should have told me you were ordering - I'd have given you a run down on our faves.Regardless, their stuff is amazing.
