So, what are the chances of something nasty happening?

Picture the scene. Mrs C works for a local. A bit of a wide-boy...a nice guy who would honestly do anything he could to help us out. Mrs C has been there for about 18 months and made him a fortune. However, the Municipality is basically shutting down 75% of his business for lots of reasons.
Mrs C has resigned. He was a bit gutted, but not a lot more was said. He has since said that he'll continue to pay her, regardless of what the business does. He's always been a bit of a dreamer, and continues to try and obtain a new site, thinking Mrs C will simply move there.

Mrs C is on the verge of opening her own business, very close to the old one, with another (probably more influential) Local. The new guy is going to be a landlord only for 5 years, then a partner after that. The only thing stopping her now is a fear that old local will make life hell, and make it his mission to ruin our lives by making sh!t up, and have us arrested of even imprisoned (old local is ex police).

A local colleague laughed and reminded me that old Local is not above the law, and Mrs C has nothing to worry about.

What do we think?

Not yet. We didn't want to give him the impression that there may be any trouble.

Hmmm tough.

Sure he could make life difficult for a while and would probably turn into a willy waving contest between the two.

I take it she is on your visa?

Might be worth a trip/call to the labour department to get their thoughts

For a govt entity I think they are quite good with these kind of things, they don't take kindly to people being threatened from friends past experience are helpful

Or if you know any lawyers ask them?

Agreed. Mrs C is just gonna tell him how it is, and see what happens.

It only takes a few days and a few hundred Dirhams to swap onto your visa. We did that as it makes life a lot easier for wives moving jobs.

But can this be done even without his permission?

I'm not sure but you could do it sharpish while there's no dispute.
