Gents,

Would a wrangler be happy towing a horse float and 2 horses?!

You might get away with it in a Wangler Unlimited, the 5 door one, but I doubt a normal one would be heavy enough to do it.

A Dodge Ram (5.7 Hemi engine) double cab would. Might know of somebody willing to sell if you are interested.

Ahhh, I am pathetic when it comes to buying a car, but this one is for the Mrs! We need something that can tow a couple of horses and is good crossing sand, but not duneing.

Sounds a bit too "nice" for Mrs C requirements! I was only looking to spend 40k.

Not that new and the load bed could be used to carry other horsey stuff. Drove it a couple of times and lets just say its a bit quick and makes a lovely noise.

I think it might be a tiny bit light for a horse trailer with two fully-grown horses. If you take 2 fully-grown horses at 500kg each, plus the weight of a decent horse trailer (our Ifor Williams weighs in at just over 1000kg) and you're already at 2 tonnes.

I had a 2.5 petrol Wrangler for a while but didn't use it for towing as we also have a LR Discovery which tows very well.

Aren't Toyota Landcruisers very popular out there? They are brilliant for towing.

looks like the purchase price is driving this [budumtish]. for aed40k you can take your pick of wranglers, but the landcruiser-esque option will be decidedly sheddy.

Agreed the Landcruiser would be the opbvious choice, but as has been said, too much money for me...well for Mrs C to ruin in 12 months.

I was also thinking on an Explorer? they're relatively inexpensive and a 2005 model with average milage can be had for less than 40.
