Is this an over-reaction? We had the business plan to a tee. The funding was in place, the assets agreed on....all we needed was a location. Found it, it was perfect. It's almost derelict. It was absolutely PERFECT........the landlord said no, as he's got plans to use it for storage. Funny, he didn't have plans for the last 2 years.

We've thought of nothing else for ages....now we're back to square 1.

Absolutely gutted.

Sorry to hear.

Does he know what you had intended to use it for?

We think he only knows the basics (as we had to use a 3rd party to contqact) but he flatly said no as he owns a construction company and wants to use the land to store stuff. Funny that it's been vacant for years, then when we ask to speak to him, it's a no as he's moving his stuff in within 3 days apparently.
Something sounds fishy...

Sounds like a Qatari approach!

Was this a horse based venture?

Does he know anything about the business plan?

This region is rife for this sort of thing.

A business plan is touted around for potential (local) investment or infrastructure, they are interested and get you to expand upon every detail then pull the rug from under you at the last minute. You then find they do exactly what you were going to do a few months later.

It often fails as they are unable to run a bath but it's already been scotched for you.

You could, of course, take them to court... whistle

Yeah, it was the horse based business.
It's just soooo frustrating. As has been said, the current boss couldn't run a bath, but Mrs C has turned that business from loss making, to making him a fortune. It's her contacts, her time and the way she runs a business that's turned it around. Her loyal friends/customers are waiting for us to announce the new place so their business wil come with.
The only other option we have is to offer a 50/50 split on a new place....but he'll never go for it, thinking he can do better himself.

I can almost touch the opportunity, but cannot get over the line. It's doing my brain in!

Nick - I know some of the horsey set here. Let me see if I can speak with them in the next few days and see if there is anything I/they can do.

Any chance you could email me the physical requirements? Feel free to give me more info if you're happy with it.
