Some of you will have the great pleasure of not having much in the way of dealings with TFL... for those of you that do, or for those of you that take your older 4x4 vehicles inside the m25 near London..... BEWARE!!

They are soon starting (Jan 2012) to expand the different types of vehicle which will get caught in the Low Emission Zone (LEZ)

This leaves you with two possible outcomes -

1st - Pay a cost of £100 per day that your vehicle is inside the LEZ.

2nd - Get a Diesel Particulate Filter fitted

Has anybody else come across this yet and if so do you have any intention of ever driving your truck anywhere near the LEZ or alternatively fitting a DPF at no doubt great expense, if such a filter is even available for your vehicle.

Regards

Have had quite a few customers with this problem, looking into a fix.

depends on what they define as a light 4x4 utility vehicle!

For bridge crossings all landrovers are cars- what are they for the LEZ? cant see them trying to say my landcruiser is a utility vehicle, but it chucks out far more particulates than a TD5!

The entire "4x4 utility" class is under review apparently, at least that's what TfL have told me both times I've queried the "Get a filter or f*** off" letter. No time scale mentioned, so I suspect around a week before it all goes live they'll decide Defenders ARE liable. The pivotal bit is how they're saying a Defender Station Wagon isn't liable where as an identically engined van-bodied LR is. My question asking how windows in the back affect emissions has gone largely ignored so far.

It's about how the vehicle was sold - if it was originally sold as a commercial vehicle plus VAT it's a commercial vehicle and banned. If it was sold as a car with VAT in the price it's OK. If you've got a commercial vehicle version you could fit seats and windows and ask the DVLA to reclassify it. . . . .

I'm aware it's based around how they were classed when they were sold, my point to TfL is that this isn't indicative of their emissions. It's the Low Emission Zone, not the Low Commercial Vehicle Zone.
