Had a really unpleasant experience while out with my wife and our three dogs yesterday at Erlestoke Woods, which is halfway between Devizes and Westbury in Wiltshire.

I used to walk in these woods all the time with my mother when I was a kid. She died recently and it had been on my mind for a while to go back and walk there – hadn’t been there for 30 years.

The woods are owned by the MOD and have a couple of pathways through them, but they are not open to vehicles and never have been. There are lots of signs up to remind people of this. As soon as we arrived a military Police Hilux appeared and we were told to be careful because there were illegal vehicles using the pathways. As we were talking two Moto X bikes appeared and the MPs disappeared off after them.

The walk was a total disaster. The woods were full of bikes and a couple of Discos and we spent the whole time dodging them. They passed close by us on several occasions not bothering to slow down or show us any consideration at all. The pathways are deeply rutted in places and verging on the impassable. We met several other walkers, many of them quite elderly, some of whom were genuinely shocked and upset.

Eventually I had had enough. A couple of bikes came up behind us and I stood in front of them, forced them to stop and made myself pretty unpleasant. I’m not a small person and I’m not afraid to get involved. We videoed them and I refused to let them pass – eventually they were forced to turn around and go back.

We took several other videos of the bikes and the Land Rovers and I have sent these to the Military Police this morning.

I love green laning in my Land Rover, and I know there are plenty of legal byways open within a few miles of Erlestoke where you can fill your boots. These idiots, through their selfishness, stupidity and arrogance, are ruining everything for all of us and they must be stopped.

We have this same problem in the peak district, with people going off the legal routes when out greenlaning and tearing up farmers fields and wild moorland. Sadly i can only see it ending one way and thats with greenlaning been banned. Such a shame for us that enjoy it properly.

Looks like a good place for the MOD to do some anti-insurgent training to me

What is it with you and people on two wheels eh MAM ;-) ?

Seriously though well done, hope the videos result in a few stern warnings being issued (I'm assuming a few of them had reg plates on?)
O/T - Dd the ipcc ever get back to you about that other trouble you had?

Almost every day. He walks his kids to school along the path every day since being made redundant from the local council.

Strangely enough, I know some very influential people on the council.

Believe it or not, some idiots are using the landscaped area at the edge of our development for nighttime 4x4 fun. I'm all in favour of off-roading, but there's a time and a place, especially as one of the slopes thy're enjoying involves going up over a blind crest over a pavement and onto the road.

Who should I report this to btw? Local plod or council?

Earlstoke woods, oh I used to do my downhill training there every weekend. Right up until the MOD destroyed the track, of which was quite a famous track around the S.W area. Myself and a couple of fellow riders, always made sure the track was clear of any litter and tried to make the place quite tidy. However the complete fktards which go there on their crossers used to ride the same course. It was NOT made for a motorbike, it was designed for downhill mountain bikes. However, one complete idiot decided to go a bit quickly on his motorbike down our course which he then came off and now for health and safety reasons our course has been closed. This is totally unfair, as myself and a couple of friends have spent hours/days making that place a great ride.

I have absolutely nothing against green laining, but keep it legal guys. It totally ruined my fun and quite a few other people. Not cool!

Oh dear, doesn't look like the locals have got too much support for the OP based on the comments.

Actually I think the only positive one may be his own.

I'm still getting that tingly troll alert about the OP smile , but then think he could actually be as much of a twunt as he comes across as.
