Morning All

Thieves targeting Defenders as usual

The good lady was popping into John Lewis at Solihull this Saturday
while she shopped for an hour and forty minutes , some thieving scum thought it might be fun to relieve our much loved defender (Black 110 xs puma) of it's bonnet and front grill including side lights and indicators .

they managed to do this in a busy car park , in broad daylight between 1pm and 2.40pm
with CCTV (that caught nothing)
and without setting the alarm off

net result , a little over £1700 to replace , paint & refit all the parts

so they are obviously skilled (disconnected lights at connectors , knew how to release bonnet without access to the inside of the car)

they are prepared (had the right tools , and presumably a vehicle big enough to take a very large piece of metal)

and they have the gall to do this whilst a host of people must have been walking past

My guess it is it was either parts to order , or someone wants an upgrade

I hope it is the former as I would hate to think that a fellow defender owner would stoop so low !

so my message is ... Watch Where You Park , They Want Your Parts

be careful out there kids

And if you thnk about it, they must have followed her there and had a 3rd person following the Mrs round the shops ready to alert if she came back to the car. Unless she does the same shop at the same time every week?

I feel for you mate.I think it wont be long before the insurance companys starting putting a large premium on Defenders due to the large theft rate.

Within a few weeks span they managed to thieve the headlights from 56 varying models of Landrover around the Warwickshire area. Ebay or export I presume.

Glad I live in the sticks in Cornwall!

Hoping current models (ours is a 57 reg 110XS) are a bit more secure? I doubt it though!

Sad to say that our friend's 53 plate Discovery was relieved of its headlights last week. All done quietly at night on the driveway whilst they slept. That and damage totalled £500 to fix. I would imagine they had to force open the bonnet to detach the headlights?

We are in a rural area around Halifax West Yorkshire. From CCTV it was 2 guys in a mini, Police are investigating.
